ONE CAN HELP A FAMILY
MANY CAN HELP A COMMUNITY!
Often times we do not recognize the needs that are constantly around us. Unfortunately, we often misjudge the circumstances that are a very real part of someone else's life. Thus, the danger in "judging"! Christ tells us, we are to let Him be the judge, we are to the hands extended to help others.
My 13 year old son wrote a poem that made my heart sink inside me as I was reminded of this very need that is so real in the lives of others, and I wanted to share it with you. I pray it causes you to reach deep within yourself to show more compassion as it has me. He entitled it:
WHO IS MY NEIGHBOR?
Who is my neighbor,
surely it cannot be,
That homeless man
who must often go hungry?
Who is my neighbor
surely not that man,
For he is of the world,
so why should I give him a helping hand?
Why do we so often
let the memory slip our head,
That we were also homeless
and yet by someone's hand still fed?
That we were once of the world,
sinful to the bone,
Never wishing to do right,
but, just to be left alone.
But, someone had compassion
and peace replaced my strife
Then my name was written
in the Lambs Book of Life.
So whether you were once of the world
or Christ all your life you've known
Once on a hill called Calvary
the greatest compassion was shown.
We are the messengers of the love
that Christ did on us bestow
And we as the messengers
should compassion on our neighbors show!
