Savings are at the max at hundreds of stores with increased acceptance of coupons and the awareness of digital coupons. Technology has changed the way we shop by offering more resources at our fingertips through cell phone coupon availability. Walking in a store only to see a customer handing their cell phone to the cashier to scan a discount is becoming more and more common. Do the savings really add up, you may be wondering? You be the judge of this scenario:
Last week I went to Office Max to have a print order filled at a retail of around $75. I pulled out my phone to do a quick check for a possible coupon and to my delight found a 25% off my total purchase. Do the math! This coupon which the cashier scanned from my phone saved me $18.75 off my total order for a final cost of $56.75. I don’t know about you, but an extra (almost) $20 in my pocket means big savings. All in less than a 30 second glance through my phone.
We have heard the common complaints of less coupons for the products we need, however digital coupons are changing the complaint to a pleasant surprise of savings for the thrifty consumer with a mind to save. So how does it work and where do you find those “great” coupons? If you are among the many who have a smart phone, you are blessed with the opportunity to take advantage of these great deals. Here’s the 1,2,3’s of saving with your smart phone:
- Download popular coupon apps from your app store on your phone.
Some of my favorites are:
Coupon Sherpa—lists stores where coupon savings are available and shows coupon for redeemability
Snip Snip—allows you to take a picture of the coupon with your phone and show it to the cashier for redeeming. Also, allows sharing of coupons with friends
Yowza—finds coupons based upon your geographical location and can be redeemed instantly when shown to the cashier
- Open app and find the store or coupon you want to use.
- Show your phone to the cashier for scanning of coupon. Occasionally coupons won’t scan, however the cashier can usually manually enter the code from the coupon to administer the discount.
Don’t despair if you do not have this smart phone technology. Texting coupons is on the rise as well. Many coupons can be obtained by sending a text to receive multiple coupons for multiple locations. Text couponing is actually considered to be the fastest growing segment of the marketing and advertising industry. What makes this type of correspondence gold is the fact that more people have cell phones than televisions and nearly 80% of the population has a cell phone. So where do you discover these gems of gold? Text coupons are set up by the retailer and available to the customer by request. To determine if your favorite retailer offers text coupons visit their website for specific details. The list is infinite as to the availability of this resource. Some of the participating retailers are, but not limited to as follows:
Payless Shoe Source
Target
Sonic
Bath and Body Works
Arby’s
Dollar General
Family Dollar
Kohl’s
Jo Ann Fabrics
Walgreens
These are just a few to get you started. Here are some tips when taking advantage of text messaging couponing:
- Only sign up for those you know you will use (otherwise your phone will receive a lot of junk mail you won’t need)
- Cancel receiving text messages from the retailer if you don’t use the savings (you can always resign up at a later date)
- Delete coupon after the expiration to keep your phone organized and not overwhelmed
- Show the text message to the cashier to receive the discount being offered.
In an ever changing economy we can be sure that advanced technology will be introduced in couponing especially in regard to cell phone convenience and usage to increase companies marketability and product awareness. If you haven’t yet joined the cell phone fanatic couponers world; it may be time to step up to the future and experience the savings in a whole new way.

Many people still ask me, “How do I know when it’s a really good deal?” Others ask, “Do stores mark up the prices when they put items on sale?” So what are the answers to these questions and how can you really tell you are getting a “good” deal? Let’s take a look at what makes up a successful shopping experience. There are generally 3 sale types that classify as “good” sales and they are:
Buy one get one free—This sale offers the customer a second item for free. Let me fill you in on a little secret—you don’t have to get 2 at grocery stores to get this deal. Each item will ring up at ½ price in a “buy one get one free” deal. This is a marketing tactic to encourage purchasing both items, but if you need them it’s well worth it. Drug stores on the other hand work opposite when it comes to this type of sale. The first item will ring up full price and the second item will ring up free. Be sure and grab both if shopping CVS, Walgreen’s or Rite Aid or you miss the deal. If a specific item appears weekly as a “buy one get one free” deal it is probably not a deal that sets up for great savings.
10 for $10 deals—When shopping this sale customers are “encouraged” to buy 10 items, but not required. Individual items may be purchased for only $1.
Mix & Match (or often called Mega Deals)---This type of sale can come in many formats: Buy 10 get $5 off, Buy 4 get $4 off, Buy 6 get $3 off, etc… With all of these sales you must buy the specified number of items to receive the discount, however you can mix and match participating items for variety that fits your needs.
Let me answer the question of “Do stores ever mark up an item and claim it is on sale?” Unfortunately, this does happen in some cases. The best thing you can do to prepare yourself from spending unnecessarily is to have an idea of what the original price usually is and determine if this new price is really much of a reduction.
What should you be on the lookout for when it comes to watching those sales?
- Sales that state something like 2 for $5, but in small print say 1 at $2.99 (Read the fine print to know what you will actually pay if you buy only one. Generally if it doesn’t specify you will receive one at $2.50.
- Sales that state “Surprisingly Low Price.” These are generally not as low as they say. Here again know a ballpark of what the usual price is and make a good call on whether to put it in the cart or leave it on the shelf.
Generally, I will mark my ad with the items I wish to purchase and then match my coupons to the items I have decided to buy. Remember, coupons can be used sale items for even bigger discounts. Consumers love sales, but we must be alert to the fact that not all “sales” are actually “sales.” Marketing is what makes businesses successful and is a key to promoting and prompting purchasing consumers, however consumers must be educated on spending their money wisely. Are you getting what you pay for? Do you need what you’re getting? These are two questions every wise consumer should ask themselves before making a final purchase. Consider the cost before picking up the product. “She considers a field and buys it….” Proverbs 31:16

Not too long ago Walgreen’s brought us the Balance Reward Card System and now Publix is expanding their coupon savings with the introduction of digital coupons. For those of you not familiar with digital coupons you may have heard the term “eCoupons.” Basically these are the same the thing. Digital coupons are clip free coupons loaded to your loyalty shopper cards or attached to your telephone number. In regards to Publix you are probably aware of the fact no loyalty card program is used, therefore your savings are attached to your telephone number.
Here’s how it works:
- Go to www.publix.com
- Click on “save here” in the navigation bar at the top of the page
- In the drop down box click on “coupons.”
- Once there you will see “Publix Digital Coupons” Click where it states “sign up.”
- Simply fill out the registration process (Note: you will need a different mypublix.com account than you may already have set up.)
- Once registered you will be able to access and choose coupons from their site.
- Click on the coupon you wish to use at the store and it will automatically attach it to your phone number you registered with
- Tell the cashier you have digital coupons and give her your phone number or simply log it in on their pin pad machine.
You may be wondering, “Are there any special rules when using these digital coupons?” Yes, there are some basic guidelines. Here they are:
- Digital coupons will not double
- The digital coupons may be used immediately with no wait time.
- All will have an expiration date and will be available for use only one time unless otherwise indicated.
- Digital coupons may not be used with a manufacturer coupon (at Publix you may choose which coupon you will use; if a paper coupon is used the digital coupon will remain in your account for a future use.)
The functionality of Publix digital coupons is pretty much the same as the already popular Kroger’s eCoupon with few variances. Occasionally it does happen when a digital coupon discount does not appear. Are you out of luck for receiving this discount? Not entirely. Publix has made available a hot line number for customer service where you can let them know of your problem. “You can call 866-486-4292 (Mon-Fri, 8a-9p) or email PublixSupport@inmar.com to resolve any issues. You will need to include your Publix Digital Coupons phone number and transaction information.”
A few scenarios have occurred in using digital coupons with B1G1 sale items. For example:
Purchase –4 spaghetti sauce (bogo)
Coupons used – 3 paper manufacturer & 1 digital coupon
This is a normal transaction, however the register sometimes misinterprets this as a potential stacking of digital & paper coupon. The best way to alleviate this problem if it should occur is to make two separate transactions to reduce register confusion.
Happy shopping to you as you join the Publix world of digital coupons.

It’s time again to file those taxes and many will receive a hefty little sum of income again this year. So how do you spend your tax return? Does your plan consist of planning a vacation, updating the wardrobe, buying a new lawnmower, a new tv, a used car, or maybe even paying off a few bills? It’s interesting to note that the majority of people are planning on using their refunds for preparedness purposes like savings accounts. We have seen a vast majority of people using prudency when it comes to money over the past 2 years because of the unpredictable economy. Many were set back unexpectedly financially and are still recovering. Planning ahead has become an important part of the way Americans now view money and its value. Approximately 40% are planning on paying off debt and 26% will spend their money on living expenses. Finally 12% will hit the stores for shopping fun. No matter what you decide to do with your refund this year, shopping around for the best deal pays off and stretches those tax dollars a little further.
Here are some suggestions for shopping for those items on your list:
- Think ahead
(“A wise man thinks ahead…”Proverbs 13:16)
Does that brand new tv look really inviting and cause you to forget that your tires on the car are almost worn out?
- Get more for less by looking into pawn shops, eBay, Craig’s list and discount stores for refurbished items.
(“….and by knowledge the rooms shall be filled with all precious and pleasant riches.” Prov. 24:4)
Often refurbished items will prove to be better than new in many cases, because they go through a thorough checkpoint to make sure everything is functional and all kinks are worked out.
- Make a wish list of all things you would like to do with your tax refund then evaluate the cost of each item and consult with your family on its importance to them and you. (”Prepare plans by consultation…Prov. 20:18)
One thought on planning for the family vacation—gas prices are up and you might want to add in a little extra savings for this. If your plans include shopping for electronics or phones and accessories here are a few sites that pay off by offering you some great savings:
www.cowboom.com
www.all4cellular.com
www.frys.com
Well, you’re probably wondering how I am spending my tax refund. The sad news is the dentist gets most of it. :( However, I will be tucking some away in the savings account. Here’s to wishing you success in stretching those tax dollars and enjoying your once a year bonus.

Chances are you have noticed some changes in the circulation of coupons and their specific types over the last few months. You may be asking yourself, “Is couponing on its way out or is it still all its cut out to be?”
In 2007 we saw a great increase in the amount of consumers using coupons due to the declining economy. Although the usage of coupons has still remained active we are noticing some differences occur over the last few months. In general most people have always used coupons to purchase items they need (instead of want) at remarkable discounts, with the exception of the “extremists.” The majority of consumers understand that couponing is not a savings if you don’t need the item you are receiving the discount on. In other words if you are buying just to have and your wants keep increasing; your space will become deficient, your expenses will go up and you’ll find yourself building on to the garage to house your “bargains.” I have never seen a remodeling house addition that saved money.
NCH Marketing, a Valassis company, is the leader in coupon media delivery. Their studies show us coupon usage is still strong with 79.8% of consumers still regularly using coupons for CPG items (which refer to consumer packaged goods.) Unfortunately, what we see taking place is the increase in non-food category coupons making up 4.4% more available. Why is this a problem? The problem is most consumers tend to hold back on purchasing many of these items name brand and shop for private label brands instead. We also see 6.5% fewer coupons for food items that people actually need or want. The biggest complaint thus far seems to be, “I can’t find coupons for what I need.” Thus, the problem became a drop of usage by 17% in 2012.
Another big change we see in coupons is the purchase requirements went up. In other words consumers were asked to purchase two or more products to use the discount offered on the coupon. This type of coupon increased by 29% and affected approximately 45% of all food coupons. Some other changes taking place are the reduction of time usage for coupons. For example a coupon that used to be valid for 9 weeks on average is now good for only 8 weeks. Face value of coupons also decreased by 1.3% this year. For a complete report on NCH’s 2013 coupon facts go to www.nchresourcecenter.com.
So with all of this being said here’s what you can expect for 2013:
- Quicker expiration dates with an average of 6-8 week life span
- Less face value discount
- More coupons for items you might be less likely to buy first
- Requirement of multiple purchase to receive the discount offered
Does this mean couponing is on its way out? Probably not, however it does mean shoppers will need to be more aware of what the marketing trends are and become wiser shoppers. After 125 years of savings success, chances are couponing will continue. However, it is up to the consumer to set the standards. How can we make a difference in what we see taking place in the market of coupons?
- Email companies for brands you would like to see coupons for. (An opinion without a voice is just dissatisfaction without a difference)
- Use only coupons to buy the items you will use. In doing this you will show a trend for what you would like to see. (Where there is no demand, production will decrease.)
Consumers still have the upper hand by setting the standards for production. If we learn to shop wise, speak wise and save wise we will not only benefit our own households, but we will impact the decisions of marketers to provide us what we need and want.
“In hard work there is always something gained, but idle talk leads only to poverty.”
Prov. 14:23

If you are a couponer, no doubt you have been eagerly searching for the "yellow" advantage buy flyer. The news is out, "you aren't going to find it." Publix has changed this flyer to a light green. In other words, same flyer but a different color.
If you are new to these phenomenal savings flyers here's the scoop:
1) They are put out monthly
Savings advantage buy ads become start on two different dates. One ad will be effective starting mid month (usually around the 19th, this will be your dark green ad) The other ad will be effective starting at the first of the month (usually around the 5th, this will be your light green ad.)
2) There are always two-one contains food & pet items (light green) & the other contains personal hygiene & health related items (dark green)
In both ads you will find many highly discounted items which you will often have a coupon for. (Coffee creamers in the light green ad are some of my favorites and razors and makeup in the dark green ad.)
3) They contain coupons, most are store & these can be used in addition to a manufacturer coupon on one item.
For example: There may be a coupon for $2 off Covergirl makeup in the ad; stack it with a $1 off manufacturer coupon for a total of $3 off your one item. (Hint: The single eye shadows are usually very affordable at around $.50 or less when this can be done.)
4) The advertised prices are good for 1 month (expiration dates on the ad)
5) All store coupons are indicated with an LU# that cashiers key in for the discount
This code is found in the lower right hand corner of each coupon. In the upper corner you will notice “Redeem at Publix.” If you do not see this chances are it is a manufacturer coupon and will state as so. Sometimes these are mixed amongst them.
"So where do I pick up these great ads?"You may be wondering. These are usually located at the front of the store near the weekly ads. If you don't see them there be sure and ask at the service desk for them.
If you haven't been taking advantage of these ads, "start now!" They are a key to the ultimate savings at Publix.

The closing of 2012 may be a sigh of relief, an anticipation for 2013, or even a disappointment of its passing. For some it holds precious memories of dreams coming true, for others it may have been a struggle to survive. Whatever 2012 meant to you, 2013 can surpass your past as you set new goals and work to achieve them. For years people have been making New Year’s resolutions with intentions of bringing greater success in the coming year. We’ve all heard the usual resolutions—eat healthier, lose weight, make more money, etc…. These resolutions often get a bad reputation of a continuing dream. However, success is the outcome of the dreams dreamed and determination unceasing. Many people believe a dream is only something they wish for, but never achieve. So let’s take a look at some steps to achieving your dream in 2013:
“But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and moving forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal….” Philippians 3:13-14
- Leave 2012 behind!
Don’t dwell on what you couldn’t accomplish last year. If you keep looking back you’ll never get where you want to be. Maybe you didn’t save enough last year, the bills got bigger, the demands got larger and paychecks got smaller; the first step to changing your situation is changing your focus. Focusing on what could have been, what wasn’t or what was can all hinder what can be. Change your mind if you wish to change your future!
- Set a goal and write it down!
If you don’t know where you want to go you probably won’t get there. If you desire to change your financial situation, spend more time with the family, become self employed, take a vacation, save money for next year’s Christmas or stockpile your house with a month’s worth of food “WRITE IT DOWN.” Post it somewhere you will constantly see it. When it stays in sight, it stays on your mind. A challenging day can steal your focus and keep you from your goal if you don’t have a constant reminder of why you’re doing what you’re doing. A prosperous day can also change your ability to reach your goal by providing a temporary comfort zone. Remember success is achieved by making the most of every opportunity by keeping the end goal in sight. Don’t spend your first blessing expecting to make it up in a future opportunity. Balance is the key to everything. Budget your time, money and relationships if you want to reach your goal.
- Start moving!
If you want to experience something different do it by moving your hands and feet. Try new things, work to achieve things you haven’t accomplished (yet!) Notice I say “yet,” just because it hasn’t happened yet doesn’t mean you’re dreaming the wrong dream. It may just mean you need to take a different avenue and look at it from a different perspective than you have in the past. If you started couponing in 2012, but haven’t cut your time and savings by 50% yet, keep working at it. Look for ways that make it feasible for your life and circumstances.
- Press on!
Think about the sport of football for a moment. Wouldn’t it be nice if you could grab the vision and run straight toward the goal without encountering obstacles along the way? Unfortunately, this is not how you play the game. There will be challenges that knock you down on the way to your goal. They will blind side you, come straight for you and attempt to defeat you. It is the player who gets up and advances toward the goal in several attempts that eventually experiences the taste of success. Not all obstacles are the same size and can make getting up a little harder when you get hit. Let’s look at another aspect of this—the player makes it to the goal quicker with the support of the team. A player that plays their part on the team takes part in the victory. Does it mean you can’t reach your goal if you’re the only one who believes it’s worth reaching? No, you can still get there if you’re determined, but it will take more effort when you’re battling off the challenges by yourself. If you believe you can save big with couponing, but your husband doesn’t, it might make your goal more challenging. However, continued effort and final victory will make a believer out of him. Talk about your goals with your family and try to reach them together with the support of one another. Remember, you are all on the same team.
Finally, I pray 2013 blesses you with the desires of your heart. May peace, prosperity and health overflow in abundance as you move toward your goals.
“And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.”

Christmas is only a few days away and chances are you are making the final grocery shopping list to prepare for all the tastes of the holidays. Following the Christmas presents the next most anticipated pleasure is the food at my house. Every year we have the main meal as breakfast. Mom wakes up early, fills the stockings with sweet treats and begins the cooking. Sausage, bacon, eggs, gravy, biscuits, egg & cheese quiche and waffles (cinnamon & sugar, chocolate chip and homestyle). Then it’s on to the presents which take all of the morning as we unwrap from youngest to oldest. Once the wrapping is done, the cooks are ready for the afternoon nap while the kids enjoy their presents. Lunch is not even a thought until about 3:00. It is then we carve the ham and turkey for deli style sandwiches. Chips, cheese trays, olives, lettuce, onions, tomatoes and hoagie style buns top off the subs. But, what do you do with the leftovers when the thought of another sandwich turns everyone’s?
“Leftovers” has always been a word at my house that everyone turns their nose up at. It seems to say, “Better the first time around!” What’s a mom to do? We obviously want to be as saving conscience as possible and throwing out good food doesn’t fit that plan.
The first thing we must do is eliminate the word “leftovers” from our family vocabulary. Funny how changing one little word can change the way we look at things. There are no leftovers at my house, only “recreated recipes!” You see, leftovers have value waiting to be discovered. Furthermore, leftovers are not to be wasted!
“When the people had eaten their fill, He said, ‘Gather the leftovers so nothing is wasted.’”
John 6:12
Let’s recreate the Christmas Day menu leftovers for a week of suspenseful soon to be favorite recipes.
Bacon & Sausage—crumble and place in Ziploc bag for recipes
Scrambled eggs—
Egg Casserole:
Add some crumbled bacon or sausage, add enough milk to moisten, 1 tsp. ground mustard, onion & green pepper if desired. Top with lots of cheddar cheese and bake till heated.
Breakfast Burritos:
Add scrambled eggs, bacon or sausage to a soft shell taco cover with cheddar cheese, wrap and freeze in Ziploc freezer bags. (Pop them in the microwave for a hot breakfast)
Waffles—Place in Ziploc bags in the freezer. Let the kids pop them in the toaster in the morning for a hot, quick breakfast.
Gravy—
Biscuit & Gravy Casserole:
Put frozen hashbrowns in a casserole dish, top with biscuits, cover with gravy. (I like to add a few touches of butter on top of the hashbrowns before adding the biscuits)Bake until heated through.
Ham—
Ham & Potato Casserole:
Add cubed ham, sliced potatoes, 1 can cream of mushroom soup, ½ c of milk, 1 TBS butter. Mix in casserole dish, top with cheddar cheese. Bake till heated through.
Crockpot Ham & Beans:
Save the juice from the ham and put in the crockpot add recommended water for beans deducting the amount for the ham juice, add chopped sweet onion. Soak northern beans overnight on low. (This gives the beans a wonderful flavor.)
Grind ham, add pickle relish to taste, mayonnaise and serve.
Turkey—
Turkey Pot Pie:
Chop Turkey, add mixed vegetables, potatoes, 1 can cream of mushroom, 1 can cream of chicken, salt, pepper, garlic salt. Pour into pie crust lined casserole dishes. Cook on 350 for 45 minutes.
Turkey Salad For Lunches:
Grind turkey, add pickle relish to taste, mayonnaise and serve.
Turkey & Cheese Pasta Casserole:
Chop turkey, add cooked bowtie pasta, onions (if desired), fresh mushrooms, 1 can cream of mushroom soup, salt and pepper. Mix and top with Cheddar Cheese, bake until heated through.
Turkey Vegetable Soup:
Onions, carrots, celery, salt, pepper, 1 can cream of chicken soup, 2 cups rice, 6 cups of water, (turkey broth can be added for extra flavor). Cook in crockpot on low overnight.
Turkey Wraps:
Layer shredded turkey, shredded swiss cheese, bacon crumbles, lettuce, and tomato in soft shell tacos. Top with Honey Dijon dressing and eat.
By now you’re probably getting a little bit hungry. Before heading out to the store add a few of these extras to the grocery list and stir up some great holiday memories when it comes to eating the leftovers. I wish you and your family a warm, blessed and memorable Christmas.

Family Traditions
This time of year brings an excitement that almost hushes the daily worries of jobs, finances and future concerns. It is a time of focusing on the here and now and the opportunity to extend love to family, friends and even strangers. I believe it is at this time of year that hopes are renewed and dreams can once again be dreamed. Families are made up of all sets of circumstances, but each having the same opportunity to express love and build traditions that can empower every new generation.
What are some of the family traditions experienced at your home during the holidays? Is it the smell of cinnamon candles and Christmas lights, cookies baking, Christmas music playing? Or maybe it’s the well-planned shopping day with a relaxing lunch going over Santa’s list?
Every year at my house we plan a “wish list making day.” My kids like to rate the level of importance of each gift they list. We call it the 5 star system, so mom knows what is top priority. (However, my kids do know Santa’s budget is the determining factor and are always pleased with whatever he brings.) It is the one time of year we dream big and delight in that opportunity even if our complete wish list isn’t crossed off. I encourage you to dream and allow your children to dream. Dreaming is the beginning of reality. Nothing expected will be nothing obtained. The determination of a dreamer is the beginning of conquering a goal.
Also, at my house we make countdown Christmas calendars. Think of it as an event planner. Keeping track of the days lead to the excitement, but also keep us focused on what needs to be done by when. Another tradition at our house is Christmas cookie baking. When the kids take Christmas break, we set aside a day of baking lots and lots of all kinds of cookies. We top it off by playing Christmas music as we sprinkle on the candy sugar. (I always have plenty of volunteer help when the oven timer goes off as my hidden elves appear to volunteer as taste tester—namely the husband and teenage boys.) There are lots of secrets during Christmas at my house. Everyone participates in the gift of love, from oldest to youngest. I give my youngest chores to earn money that he graciously saves and makes a trip to dollar tree with for his Christmas shopping. Each of my children delight in buying for one another. This is quite an accomplishment since they each have 5 brothers and sisters. The last thing we do every year is a community project of some type to pass on Christmas love to others. With all these traditions, it really doesn’t matter how much we have or how little. We are building lifelong memories that our children will carry into their families that will continue on the heart of Christmas which is love and hope. Christ became the hope and love of the world and to carry out that love invested in the lives of others is the greatest gift of all.
May your Christmas be filled with love, peace and joy and new found traditions!

Online Rebate Sites That Make $en$e
As we get closer to the holidays we often discover the popular items are harder to find and this leads us to search the online stores. Many stores have already begun offering fantastic discounts online, many will even include “free shipping.” I love to save money, however, I love to make money even more when I can. There are several sites on the internet that will allow you to do just that! These sites are better referred to as “Rebate Sites.” Rebate Sites are free sites which will pay you to shop. Let me explain; simply choose from the list of stores on their site you wish to shop at and you will be redirected to that store where you will make your purchase and then a percentage of what you spent will go into your own online account. The great thing about these sites is the variety of stores you can choose from; for example; JC Penney’s, Ebay, Auto Zone, Kohl’s, Sears, Walgreen’s, etc…. The list goes on and on. Savings can even be found for hotels, specialty stores and more. As an extra bonus on some of these sites you will receive a $10 gift card just for signing up. The balance in your account from purchases may be requested up to 4 times a year.
What are some of these sites? Here are a few of the most popular ones out there:
Ebates.com (One of my favorites)
Mr. Rebates.com
UPromise.com
Big Crumbs.com
Pennyful.com
Ebates is one of my 19 year old son’s favorite sites. He has saved so much money buying through this site. If you have to buy online you might as well get paid to do it, right? On most of these sites a percentage of 1-10% back can be expected. Occasionally, they will offer “double rebates.” This would be the perfect time to shop. Remember, you will need to use an email to sign up. I recommend creating one email for all of your couponing and discount. This way all of your promotional emails from these companies will deliver into your saving’s account and not your family or business account. Simplify your life by organizing your email in this manner.
Now, for some coupons to use when shopping through these sites. You heard me right; check out the following sites for discounts to apply when making your online purchases:
Retailmenot.com
Couponsurfer.com
Couponpages.com
Navigating these sites is relatively easy. Simply type in the store you are shopping for in the search box and discover if there are discounts available for your store. The site will either give you a code to enter upon checkout or a clickable coupon which will automatically be applied to your purchase at checkout.
Here’s another great way to save money this holiday season: Purchase gift cards at Kroger’s to make your online purchases for the stores you will be buying from (ex. Sears, Game Stop, Lowes, Aeropostale, etc…) and you will earn 4 times the fuel points. This offer expires Dec. 9 th.
Take advantage of these tips to save money, make money and buy discounted gas. Knowing what is available and using those resources this Christmas season will help you acquire the gifts you wish to give at greater discounts. Proverbs 24:4 tells us, “by knowledge the rooms shall be filled with all precious and pleasant riches.”
Happy savings this week as you search out the gifts for all those on your list.

Let the Black Friday Sales Begin
Here we are at the crazy shopping time of year called “Black Friday.” This marks the time of year when many retailers go from the red to the black in sales, thus the reason for its name. Most stores make 30-40% of their annual income on this day. Some love it and live for it, others avoid it and can’t wait till it’s over. No matter which category you may be in, the fact is inevitable that it will soon be here. Personally, I am a Black Friday shopper not so much for the dynamic deals as much as kicking off a holiday tradition my family has had for years. For us it is a time of enjoying the Christmas music, a nice sit down lunch and exchanging Christmas smiles with other shoppers. It is more of a mission for reminding people that the season is about the love God gave us we can give back to others in a smile. Every year I meet those who need to feel this love and refocus their shopping frenzy.
What can you expect this year? Many stores will open as early as 8 PM on Thanksgiving Day (Myself, I will watching a Christmas movie and giving the turkey dinner and pumpkin pie time to settle. No deal beats a good movie with the family in a house decked out with Christmas decorations.) My holiday shopping will start no earlier than 5:00 AM on Friday. Stores like Wal-Mart, however are putting certain items on sale at different times throughout Thanksgiving Day through Black Friday to increase the flow of shoppers. How about hot items this year? HDTV’s, affordable tablets and smart phone bundles seem to be the target of most retailers. Again this year we will see retailers offering gift cards for their store with purchase of the sale item. This can be a good way to help you pay for another gift on your list. Some stores are bringing back the layaway plan to allow shoppers the extra time to make the money for the purchase. Some of these stores are Toys R Us, Wal-Mart, Best Buy and Kmart. Check out frugalliving.about.com for a complete listing (Type in “stores bringing back layaway for Christmas” in the search box.) One of my all time favorite Black Friday websites is dealnews.com. Here you can find all the latest released ads and year round top deals on what you are looking for. If you need it they know where you can get it “cheap.”
It may be tempting at this point to gear up for the shopping event and make your plans, but let me advise you to be prepared. Not everyone will be in the Christmas giving spirit, not everyone will be smiling and not everyone will have the “give and it will be given to you mentality.” I have seen fights break out over toilet tissue deals before. Personally, I want to share the toilet paper deals with everyone; I don’t want anyone to do without. So here’s a little poem I wrote years ago to alert you to the Black Friday challenge and give you tips on handling it with patience.
WHAT DOES CHRISTMAS MEAN TO YOU?
As October arrives you already begin to see
Shelves stocked with lights, and trimmings for the tree.
No doubt that Christmas is the busiest and most exciting time of year
With cookies and candies and holiday cheer.
Then December approaches and Christmas draws close
Most houses are lighted from windows to posts.
Shoppers are scurrying for that perfect gift
Before they’re all gone and the sales they have missed.
You would expect to see joy and smiles on each face
But, as Christmas gets closer now frowns have taken their place.
And whoever thought a parking spot could cause harsh words,
But, if you’ve found a close one, they’ll probably be heard.
Inside it’s not much better, down any one aisle
Most people you meet have never heard of ‘excuse me or single file’.
This brings the question of ‘what does Christmas really mean?’
Is it just decorations, baking, and gifts people bring?
It seems the true meaning of Christmas is lost
For the one we should be celebrating, who paid the greatest cost.
Giving and sharing are good things we should do,
But, don’t leave Jesus out, for He gave the greatest gift to you.
No matter what gift you get this Christmas season
It will never be as great as the gift Jesus has given.
So with each gift that you open or song that you sing
Put Him first on your list of gifts you should bring.
The gift of yourself is all that He requests,
So remember Him this season and let Him be blessed!

My mission again this year—Save money on some great gifts for the family and share some love with busy shoppers. I hope you will make this your mission too. Happy Thanksgiving & Black Friday Bargains!

The approaching holidays should be the most memorable and looked forward to time of year. Unfortunately, holidays often bring more dread, anxiety and doubt than they do joy for many people. Questions often flood one’s mind like, “How will I keep up with the higher electric bill? What about the cost of holiday baking? How am I going to buy the kids Christmas?” All of these questions often send us scrambling for extra income and putting our minds on overload.
If you’ve been reading my articles you know I am a bargain hunter. Bargain shopping is great and there are several tips I want to give you for the holidays. However, in order for these tips to be successful you must restructure your thinking. One of the hardest lessons I had to learn 11 years ago (and still struggle with from time to time) is that of trust and surrendered control. When we struggle so hard to make things happen the way we want them to, we miss out on the joys of what’s happening. Before we lost our home eleven years ago, Christmas was fastly approaching and I knew there was no possible way I could buy Christmas for my children as in years past. Heartbroken and without option I began to look within my life to determine what brought them the most happiness in past years. I started to recapture images of their faces when they climbed upon my lap, when I played in the floor with them, baked cookies in the kitchen or simply took the time to watch a movie with a big bowl of popcorn. I realized that these were the times they enjoyed even more than playing with their new toys. You see, it wasn’t the gift of material possession that produced the most happiness, but the gift of love expressed through time given. My children don’t often remember what they get from year to year under the tree, but what they do ask me for every year is this, “Can we decorate the house and light the cinnamon candles? When can we bake all the cookies? Once we clean the house can we watch a Christmas movie and eat popcorn?” It’s the memories that last not the presents. Once you have this mentality every holiday season will be the best one ever. As a matter of fact, no matter what gifts I give my children each year they always tell me it’s the best Christmas ever.
You may think this article is a little premature with Christmas still two months away, however if you have been in the stores no doubt you have discovered it’s already on everyone’s mind. So, how about those shopping tips to help you make the much out of little:
- Watch for & stock up on holiday foods already going on sale and use your coupons. Doing this will keep you from paying full price last minute when you’re trying to finish up the gift buying. (Coupons for all the trimmings started coming out last week—pumpkin pie, can milk, cranberry sauce, etc…)
- Shop the liquidation stores & pawn shops. (I have found many items my children wanted at these places at huge savings. As a matter of fact, I have one son who buys all his Christmas gifts at pawn shops and everyone loves it.)
- Help the kids make some extra gift buying money by posting toys they’ve grown tired of on eBay. Now’s the time to get it posted. Which makes another good point—shop & sell on eBay yourself. (One year I made all my kids Christmas money by selling several of one hot item. I put them on layaway till they sold and my investment paid off.)
- Take advantage of coupons that come in the mail for “customer appreciation” or for “email signing up.” Here’s what I mean—this week I received a $25 coupon from a clothing store good toward any amount of purchase. Use these types of coupons on the clearance rack and you’ll score a free gift for a friend. Also, when you sign up at stores like Kohl’s for their email list they’ll send you a $5 coupon good toward any purchase. Again, stack it with a 30% off sale and the clearance rack and you’ll save big. (Watch Bath & Body Works for some great coupons for free stocking stuffer items with any purchase.)
- Use $ back rewards (RR, ECB, +UP) from needed products at drug stores to purchase gifts. Black Friday usually presents a 50% off sale on toys. (We’ll have to wait & see if this year is the same.) Save those rewards just in case. Note: Watch the expiration dates.
Finally, I want to leave you with this poem. I wrote this eleven years ago and gift wrapped it in box for my children and put it under the tree.
OUR CHRISTMAS GIFT
There won’t be gifts this year
beneath the Christmas tree.
No pretty paper & shiny bows
for you to see.
We could not buy expensive toys
or make sweet treats for you.
The cupboard was empty once again,
but, I’m sure God will see us through.
Oh, how much our heart desired
to fill your every wish.
To storm the stores so happily
to fill your Christmas list.
If desire were all it took
to give to you this year.
The tree would be full of all the things
that would bring you Christmas cheer.
Oh, how I’ll miss that moment
as your eyes light up with joy.
When you would open the package
that held that long awaited toy.
When you awake on Christmas morn
I hope you’ll understand
It’s not because we love you less
we just don’t have the means within our hands.
We don’t know why these times are hard
we really wish we knew.
Then maybe we could help each other
to better make it through.
The only gift we have to give
We freely give you now.
It’s a gift God gave many years ago
His love, in a quiet little town.
He spent no money, but gave His best
choosing so carefully
To give us that which would bring us joy
a gift wrapped for us especially.
The gift you’ll find this year,
underneath our Christmas tree
A box with a heart inside
labeled “Our never ending love” to: you, from: me!

Search for Advancement
In today’s fast paced society and need to make more money, it seems we are always looking for that new idea that will drastically change our circumstances and get us out of the vicious cycle—go to work, get paid, pay bills & pray for enough money to make it to payday next week. I know I am probably talking to a large majority of people because the economy has put a strain on most people’s ability to stay afloat. Prices tend to go up while jobs seem to pay less than several years ago. I can speak from experience in regards to the construction career my husband holds. The same job title he held years ago in this industry today pays $8-10 less per hour. This can make a $300-$400 difference weekly. You may be wondering, “Are there any solutions to this immediate problem?” “Do we have to wait for the economy to change for our circumstances to change?” Unfortunately many search out for that “get rich quick” scheme that promises big results for little effort in minimal time. Thankfully, there are solutions that still continue to work even in the most trying economic times. A key to changing your circumstance is found in changing your mind. The way we think generally determines what we do or do not do. “Committed and persistent work pays off; get rich quick schemes are rip-offs.” Proverbs 28:20 Commitment requires you to remain focused and persistent requires you to not quit.
I have heard frequently of many cases where people just stop when they can’t afford to pursue a solution (or at least they think.). This mentality is often found because people have not been taught to look for solutions, but rather accept their position. Let’s look at a few tips to survive the economic challenges of today:
- Don’t stop with what you can reason through—When human reasoning is in control, your mind hinders your hands from trying. Answers are most often found by discovering not revelation. Be an adventurer. Thomas Edison’s inventions were not an immediate success. He started with an idea and developed a dream through trial and error.
- Look beyond the now—Set goals for where you want to be and keep your focus there. This focus will activate your hands.
- Spend less than you earn—Don’t spend all you have every week. If it means cooking supper at home instead of going out then stay home.
- Start an emergency savings—Can you pay cash for a new washer when the old one goes out? Life has unexpecteds. Can you visit the suddenly taken ill relative at the spur of the moment? Are you ready for unexpected?
- Minimize debt by paying cash—If you can’t pay for it, you can most generally do without it. It’s easy to say, “I’ll charge it now and pay it off when the tax refund comes in,” unfortunately something will many times battle for that bonus.
- Use resources to save where you can--Couponing for a few dollars here and a few dollars there does add up. I tracked my savings for 17 weeks and found that by shopping on sale and with coupons I saved $3400. Could that amount of money make a difference in your finances? Probably so.
There is no peace like that of having food in the house, gas in the car and money in your pocket for the unexpected. Changing times often require us to take a look at the way we live. Are we buying what we can’t afford? Does our lifestyle keep us from “ really living or do we stay in anxiety?” Let me challenge you this week to put back $20 out of your income in a savings account and forget you have it. Don’t wait for perfect conditions, they never come. When you are diligent with what you have you will be given more. (Luke 19:17)
Finally, “Work your garden—you’ll end up with plenty of food; play and party—you’ll end up with an empty plate.” Proverbs 28:19 Isn’t it time we stop playing prosperity and learn to achieve it? Success follows those who admit where they are at and set out to arrive at a different place.

Probably, the number one reason I hear from those who do not coupon is this, “I don’t have the extra time.” Now I am in no way questioning the fact as to whether our lives are busy. I think everyone living in today’s times experiences the busyness of life. Busyness comes in many aspects, however some experience the inability to control their time do to schedules that are set for them. Those who work from home do experience the ability to control how their time is divided more easily than the person who works a job outside of the home. However, should position determine prosperity? I do not believe it should. The approach to saving may need to be different, but the prosperity of couponing should be the same. Let me challenge you with a thought, “Circumstances are stepping stones to the discovery of solutions.” All women and men for that matter should experience the benefits derived by reduced expenses and increased provisions. Learning how to adjust time to increase abundance should be the solution we set out to discover.
All of this being said you may be thinking, “Sounds great, but I still don’t see how I can possibly set aside the time. I work all day, pick up the kids, stop by the store, cook supper, help with homework, bath the kids and collapse, then do it all again the next day.” I want to make a very important statement here regarding couponing—Your life cannot center around couponing, but couponing should find its fit in your life. Think with me for a minute how many trips you make to the store each week. Is it 3, 4 or more? Does each trip take at least 30 minutes, including to and from and time at the store? Does it cost you at least $40 each trip? If you answer yes to these questions then you are spending approximately 1 ½- 2 hours a week shopping and spending $120-$160 a week on groceries. What if I told you I spend 1 hour a week in preparation for my trip and 30 minutes at the store spending only $60 for the week? Looking at this you can easily see my time investment is no more than yours and my spending is less than half. Impossible you might think. How does she do that? I’ve tried, but it doesn’t work you may even say. I want to give you 10 tips that make this possible:
- I don’t try and get every dynamic deal offered
- I focus on what my family will use
- I don’t stress over studying my coupon book to use all the soon to expire coupons
- I plan my trip to the store by combining it with other planned trips (soccer game, church, meetings, etc…) No need to make two trips when you can make just one.
- I buy multiples to reduce the need to go again in a few days (not extreme buying, just planning ahead)
- I plan my list and pull my coupons when I have to be somewhere but am not actively involved (soccer practice, doctor, dentist, etc…)
- I get my rain checks on items the store is out of (often another coupon will present itself before the rain check expires.)
- I don’t try and beat everyone to the store (Sometimes, this can mean a rain check, but it always means you stay in control of your time)
- I buy what I don’t need today for what I’ll need tomorrow if it’s on sale and I have a coupon for it.
- I teach my children to identify coupons we’d use and assign them cutting & classifying as a chore. (Remember, you are training a future saver. What more do we desire for our children than to experience financial freedom when they are adults)
Yes, couponing may be something that presents another assignment into the life of an already busy person, but think of it this way—if I spend just one hour a week on couponing yet save $200, I just made $200 an hour for my effort. I don’t know about you, but I don’t know any job that pays these wages. So I ask you, “What could you do with an extra $200 a week? Maybe work less overtime, take a family vacation, start a savings account, pay off debt?”
“Hard work always pays off; mere talk puts no bread on the table.”
Proverbs 14:23
Are you ready to take on the assignment to saving and start couponing? If you still need help pulling it altogether and learning the system I use to organize my couponing come see me at the Every Woman’s Expo at the Lebanon High School Sat. Oct. 27 from 9:30-1:30. I will be presenting 4 twenty minute sessions on couponing including, “1-2-3’s to Successful Couponing, Maximizing Savings & Minimizing Time, Discovering Drug Store Rewards to Dynamic Savings, Clipping Coupons to Debt Free Living.”

Dollar tree now accepts coupons--what does it mean for you?
If you haven't heard yet, you will probably be surprised to find out that Dollar Tree now takes manufacturer coupons. Our first instinct is to shout for joy and anticipate lots of freebies, but let's take a closer look. A couple of things to remember about the dollar store:
1. Most items are not name brand
2. Many name brand items are packaged in smaller quantities
With this in mind, how can we benefit from the new coupon acceptance policy from Dollar Tree? The answer lies in looking for products like these:
1. Campbell's soup
2. Can goods (Delmonte, Libby's, etc)
3. Soft soap (check the ounces)
4. Crystal Light Drink Mixes
5. Name Brand Chips (Bugles, etc...--be sure and check the ounces though)
6. Condiments (Hunt's Ketchup, ect...)
Many other products can be found depending on the Dollar Tree in your area. Individual stores often receive various shipments and it pays to keep an eye out for these bargains. Often a store will receive a large discount when the manufacturer has overstock and the store is willing to buy a larger quantity of that particular item. In other words, the inventory is constantly changing at the Dollar Store.
Let's take a look at the overview guidelines for the In-Store Coupon Acceptance Policy:
- Only original and intact manufacturers’ coupons will be accepted. Retailer-specific coupons will not be accepted.
- Coupons are void if copied, scanned, or if they have been altered in any way.
- Only two (2) print-at-home Internet coupons may be redeemed per transaction.
- We are unable to accept coupons for “Free” items with no purchase requirements or where the amount for the product is blank.
- Coupons can only be used in stores and must be presented at time of purchase. Coupons cannot be redeemed for cash at a later time.
- Coupons will not be accepted without the purchase of the item specified and are subject to the terms listed (e.g. expiration date, size, limitations, quantity, etc.).
- Coupons cannot be redeemed for more than the purchase price of the item.
- Only one (1) manufacturer’s coupon will be accepted per item.
- Management has the right to refuse any coupon or otherwise limit quantities.
(Visit Dollartree.com for more information on their policy)
Now, for some great news on a one day saving event at your local Dollar Tree. Sunday, Oct. 7th is Associate Appreciation Day and customers will receive an extra 10% off their entire purchase of $10 or more. Ask for the 10% off coupon at your local Dollar Tree to participate in this sale. The coupon can not be used in conjunction with other coupons.
Keep in mind these facts when using coupons: 1) A bargain is only a bargain if you need it. 2) Overstock will lead to waste 3) Plan ahead and you won't get behind. Finally, remember--
".....If you keep a cool head you'll avoid rash bargains." Prov. 11:15b
Don’t forget to mark your calendars for the upcoming “Every Woman’s Expo” Sat. Oct. 27 to learn more savings tips using coupons.

I hope you have discovered some of your positive characteristics and those areas which pose a challenge for you with the help of some trusted friends. It is important we understand that all of us possess positive traits that give us the ability to do certain things well . “God has given each of us the ability to do certain things well.” Romans 12:6 So let’s understand this—You can’t say I’m not good at anything and be accurate! I want to look at two key factors necessary for discovering your purpose:
Passion—The act of desiring something intensely. If you don’t have a passion for what you are doing you will not be able to build a passion in others. You must believe in what you do or make before you can sell it to others. Passion can’t be faked. Eventually your dissatisfaction will surface if you are doing something you don’t like. You can endlessly change circumstances surrounding what you’re doing, but as long as you keep doing it you will meet with frustration. It is said of James Audubon, who founded the Audubon Society, that he endlessly changed locations, partners and businesses, but it wasn’t until he changed that he achieved success. Unfortunately many people try and make their career what they want instead of making it what God intended. This is often because we think we know what will make us happy more than God does. So tip #1 is:
*Your purpose will be something that brings you pleasure
Pursuit—A search that occupies one’s time and thoughts. Are you actively looking for your purpose? Where are you looking? Are you only looking based upon your human reasoning or are you asking God to fulfill his purpose in you? The fact is most of us do not know what we are called to do and we search in vain when we do not ask God to direct our steps. “Commit your ways unto the Lord and He will cause your thoughts to become agreeable to His will SO SHALL YOUR PLANS BE ESTABLISHED AND SUCCEED.” Proverbs 37:5 This is probably my favorite scriptural counsel. When we step out to try a plan we must first commit it to God. In other words, “God I am going to try this or that.” At this point He will start restructuring your thoughts to line up with His plan, thus your life meeting with success. So tip #2 is:
*Your pursuit will only be successful when it is committed to God first
Let’s look at 4 preliminary assignments before undertaking any plan:
- Identify your fears-
Ask yourself why you fear this? What does the Bible say about these fears?
- Matching your talent with careers that can use this talent
For instance, if you are a great artist you might consider a job as an illustrator, graphics designer, art teacher, etc…
- Daily spiritual empowerment
Each day must be equipped with devotion, prayer and praise in order to open the communication lines to God
- Surround yourself with positive people
Unfortunately, there is more negative in this world than positive, even amongst Christians. However, it is crucial to your future to gain insight from someone non condemning who notices and encourages your positive characteristics.
The assignment for this week is to find at least 2 people you can confide in who will be your business cheerleaders. Also, take your list of positive traits and list at least 3 ways you could use each trait in a career.

Changing Your Financial Status Using Coupons
Part 3
Okay, you now have a decent stockpile, you have reduced out of pocket expense by at least 50% and you’re ready to start seeing reduction in debt. So what is the next step? It is important to start tapping away at those miscellaneous bills that have stacked up over the past months or years. Always start paying off the smallest bills first. Doing this will keep you encouraged that progress is happening. Unfortunately there are some warning signs you need to be aware of that can hinder your goal of debt free living. Let’s take a look at some of these:
- Spending on things you didn’t buy before
When your wants change it is often an indication that your focus has changed off of your intended goal. It is very easy to lose sight of the goal when your pocket book is less stressed. Don’t make this mistake. Keep your buying patterns the same and your leisure will prove to be more enjoyable when your debtors are paid.
- Overstocking
A tendency to buy more than you need can take more than you want to give. How much you stock should be determined first by your families rate of consumption. Once this is determined try and keep a 3 month supply. This is similar to what you’ve heard regarding always being financially prepared by setting up a 3 month emergency fund. It is said that 50% of all people have less than 1 months expenses saved. Think about it—how much will the “extra” groceries help you if you don’t have a house to keep them in? What often happens is people overstock the grocery items and fail to save for everyday expenses. What would happen if a 3 month supply was built in all areas—Financial Preparedness & Fear Extinction.
- A Depleted Stockpile
Yes, a depleted stockpile can steal your progress. The problem arises when you have to start over building. When a stockpile is reduced to a minimal amount it takes more time, coupons and money to build it back up. In other words if your focus returns to your stockpile it leaves your goal—debt reduction. I speak from experience on this one. I have had my expenses move from $60 weekly to $100 weekly just because coupon stockpile comfort settled in. The constant committed effort pays off in all areas. “ Lazy hands make a man poor, but diligent hands bring wealth.” Proverbs 10:4
- Giving where you aren’t supposed to
Now this one may surprise you. I believe that God assigns people to different individuals. We are not all called to minister to the same people. Why do I believe this? If we give to people we aren’t called to we can extend their situation by keeping them from discovering their own ability to overcome causing them to become dependent. When we were homeless many people gave to us, but it wasn’t until we began to dislike our situation enough that we sought to change it ourselves. It should be our ultimate goal to educate people to depend upon their God-given talents to achieve success and only give in order to extend the love of God. By doing this we build a desire in them to seek God and not man. If we over-give in this area we not only hinder their progress, but ours as well.
I hope you can see how these four things can hinder your intended goal. Continue to evaluate your progress both short term and long term. Can you mark off any short term goals? Do you need to readjust your long term goals to be more realistic?

Taking Control Of Your Future By Taking Hold Of What God’s Doing
Part 2
In part one I gave you a lot to think about regarding what your purpose is for pursuing success in your life. If you came to the conclusion that success is to glorify God & give you a heart for others first and foremost than you are ready to find out how to manifest God’s abundance in your life. First of all, we must understand we can never change the plan of God for our life. The scripture tells us, “Does the clay argue with the potter?” Romans 9:21 Neither can we change God’s mind concerning what He will use to bring us success.
This may sound a little disheartening at first, but consider this—what if God gave you exactly what you needed to accomplish that plan? The good news is, He has. The better news is—these gifts to fulfill the plan for your life were meant for you and you alone. There is nothing worse than trying to complete a job without the proper tools. This is not the case when we set our minds and efforts on the job God has for us.
Recently I spoke to a group of teens at Chicago, Alabama and Atlanta. I brought in a homemade volcano and recruited 2 volunteers to help me. The first poured the baking soda in the volcano. I asked them why nothing happened; their response we need to pour in the vinegar. As you guessed when the vinegar was added an eruption took place. I want you to think for a moment. The volcano is your life, each with a different structure, no two identical formations or eruptions. The baking soda is your gift. It is already inside of you, but requires an added ingredient to produce a reaction. The vinegar is your belief of God’s power to produce. When you move into action by teaming up your belief with your gift you will undoubtedly produce a change in your life. Now consider this, the lava that flows from the volcano changes the structure of the volcano and everything it comes in contact with as it begins to reach a state of activity. Such is your life when you stir up the gift of God in you. It will not only change your life, but it will change the lives of those around you.
“Stir up the gift of God which is in thee….”
2 Timothy 1:6
At this point you are probably saying, “Okay, I accept the fact I have a gift, but how do I know what it is?” This is a very good question and I believe one that can be answered by looking into 4 different areas. Next week we will go one step farther and discover what these 4 areas are. Until then I want to leave you with an assignment. Evaluate your life in regard to positive characteristics and negative characteristics. Ask 2 people (those who will give you honest opinions) what they believe to be your strong points and what they believe to be areas they see you need more confidence or improvement in.
Next week we will use these points along with some other tips to help discover what God may be calling you to accomplish in your life.
Until then I pray you have a blessed week!

Changing Your Financial Status Using Coupons
Part 2
In part 1 I left you thinking about what your goals are for couponing. It is important to set goals when deciding to take any course of action. In order to determine what those goals are we have to ask ourselves a few questions.
“Where there is no vision the people perish.”
Proverbs 29:18
What am I hoping to accomplish with my couponing? (more food, lower out of pocket expense, 2 month stockpile, food for the food bank, teaching my children budgeting, starting a savings account, emergency fund, pay off a doctor bill, etc….
How soon do I desire to accomplish my goal?
How much time can I invest toward accomplishing my goal?
Do I plan on delegating any of the couponing work to a family member?
Planning and goals are crucial to your success. Let’s look at a scenario:
You have $100 to spend on groceries this week and plan on stopping at the store on the way home. Your husband calls and tells you he blew a tire on the way home and it is going to cost $75 to repair it. (If you’re like most people you are living paycheck to paycheck hoping for no emergencies.)The money has to come from somewhere and the groceries are usually the place that’s cut. Now you’re left to make it on $25 worth of food for the week.
Prior planning could prevent stressful unexpected challenges. Unfortunately all too often we live in the now not preparing for these type of events. An extra $20 is often our ticket to eat out instead of cut back. This being said it is time we take a look at what we are saving and designate it to get our financial lives on track. In order to do this we will need to take a realistic look at the status of our current finances.
Expenses:
Regular—These are the expenses that usually don’t change from month to month
(Tithe, Mortgage, Utilities, Car Payment, Insurance, Trash, Lawn Care, Taxes, Gas, Credit Cards, Cable, Phone, Misc. (Dr. Bills, etc..))
“Know well the face of your flocks, and pay attention to your herds.” Prov 27:23
Misc..— These are the expenses that need to be planned for & designated based upon a % of what is left from your grocery savings. These are often the areas we don’t have any plan for due to paycheck to paycheck existenc.
(Clothing, Emergency Fund, Education, Entertainment, Savings, Vacation Fund, Christmas Fund, )
Let’s look at a good scenario:
You are now saving $100 a week ($400 monthly)
50% of your savings ($200) should be divided & designated for the misc. section above
50% of your savings ($200) should be used to pay off debt (Always start with the smallest debts and increase up until you are paying extra on car payments, house payments, etc…
Think about it. If you save $400 this could mean $2400 a year toward savings, vacations, etc… and $2400 worth of bills being paid off by the end of the year. In 5 years your financial status could be completely different. Sit down and devise a plan that meets the goals of your family. Always set out to accomplish the short term goals first, but keep the long term goals insight.
“Strategic planning is the key to warfare.” Prov 24:6
Remember, in order to reach your goal you must continue saving money. If you quit saving your cost of living goes up and your debt remains at a standstill. You don’t have to be a crazed couponer to accomplish success, but rather a committed couponer.
Next week I will take a look at things that can slow down your progress and delay your intended goals.

Taking Control Of Your Future By Taking Hold Of What God’s Doing
Part 1
Today we see more and more people dissatisfied with where they are in life and unsure of where they are going. This is not God’s plan for His people. The enemy would like to keep us in this state of unknowing. Why? So we will never experience the abundance and peace in life God has planned for us. Before we can experience this we must be assured that God had a plan for our life that know one could fulfill but us.
“Before I shaped you in the womb, I knew all about you. Before you saw the light of day, I had Holy plans for you.”
Jeremiah 1:5
We can clearly see God has a plan for our life. Does God ever orchestrate a plan that is insufficient to produce success? Think about it, everything God has created and spoken into existence has been to bring us pleasure and deliverance. Although we often experience hardship, it is God’s plan that we experience peace and satisfaction in this life.
“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
Matt 11:28-30
When we find ourselves overworked, overtired, and overwhelmed, we are told to take the “yoke of Christ and learn of Him” to find rest and peace. What is this yoke? Yoke means to join or become linked together. That being said we are to link ourselves to Christ to experience this rest and satisfaction. We do this through time set aside to learn of Him through prayer and Bible reading.
The first prerequisite for those who are dissatisfied with where they are at and do not know where they’re going is to take the yoke of Christ. It is through this action that clarity of purpose will be revealed for your life. Sometimes we are too busy trying to try that we fail to learn. Often the mentality we have is this—we must be busy to be blessed. When the truth is this—we must be still to understand what brings forth the blessing.
Are you starting to see the importance of the order of God’s plan? All too often people miss the first step or fail to understand it’s importance. You may be wondering though, what is God doing today? First of all, I believe that God is not surprised by the decline in the economy or the failures of our government structure. He knew what would happen and had a plan for the deliverance of those who turn to Him for stability. Just as He knew Adam and Eve would bring sin into mankind, He knew the government officials would turn from Him and engage in more sinning. However, just as God had predetermined a plan for our salvation through Christ, He has also prepared a plan for our security in this lifetime. How do I know this? We can see it throughout history. God sent Moses when the people were in bondage to Egypt. God sent Gideon, Barak, Jephthah and Samuel when in bondage to the Philistines and Moab. It goes on and on. God loves His people and prepares a way for their deliverance. Now to answer the question of “what is God doing today?” I believe we are seeing a generation of people who are not afraid to stand up and declare “I am tired of being captive to the economy and I’m ready to fight for my future.” It is through these bold people like Joshua and Caleb who saw the giants but declared, “let’s go up and possess the promised land,” that God will lead to a life of success. We are seeing more and more people seek God to discover their talents and use them to glorify Him, produce wealth and bless the lives of others. For instance, businesses who declare I serve God and He is the foundation to my life and success. One local business in my area comes to mind—a restaurant that opened up where they come out at the beginning of the lunch and dinner hour and pray over the meal and proclaim their belief in God. This business is always packed and will be successful because they have taken a stand to pass on not only blessing to people, but acknowledgement of God.
This is part one to a continuing message that I hope will help you discover God’s plan for your life individually. So as I close out part one ask yourself these questions :
Is what you’re looking for more about what you want or what God wants for you?
Do you believe God has a plan for your life only you can fulfill?
Does it stir your heart when you see hurting people and cause you to think about ways to help them?
Do you want to please God more than achieving any success in life?
You see in order to have everything God has for you it requires giving God everything you have.

Changing Your Financial Status Using Coupons
Part 1
We all know coupons can save money. The internet is covered up with coupon success stories, extreme couponers, and new ways to save. However, one thing I believe we have failed to do is take this tool one step farther than saving money— changing the financial structure of our daily lives.
Couponing is a tool that when used wisely can produce more than 50-80% savings. It can produce financial freedom when we learn to use the savings to change our daily patterns.
In the next few articles I will be taking you through some steps that I believe will change your life and produce financial freedom in your households.
Let’s take a look at the couponing principle in whole by some tips for coupon success that will lead to freedom living:
*Buy at least 2 Sunday papers weekly (Preferably 4 if possible)
*Buy only what’s on sale with coupons unless you need it (a treat is okay every now and then, but be conservative)
*Spend no more than 2 hours a week on coupon clipping (Too much time will produce burn out and lead you to quit. Small achievements continually lead to big successes.)
*Incorporate your children in the saving process (Cutting coupons, Filing Coupons, Matching Sales, etc…—they must learn that work pays off and success does not come instantly)
*Don’t argue with the sales clerks over coupons. (The greatest achievement is leaving a positive impression on others.)
*Don’t clear the shelves (Our first goal must be giving. We reap what we sow.)
*Don’t buy things you couldn’t buy before couponing with what you save (Use your savings to pay off a bill instead)
*Be alert to Peelies, Blinkies, and Tear Pads for extra savings (I have found some great ones)
*Don’t let your stockpile die (A dead stockpile will result in frustration and more work)
Before you can get yourself in a position to reduce your weekly spending, you will have to acquire a rotating stockpile. What is a rotating stockpile? A stockpile that keeps a predetermined number of everyday items rotating around the store sales. Let me give you the simple steps to making this happen:
1. Determine the quantity your family needs of everyday items to make it for a 6 week period.
2. Add at least 5 to that quantity
3. Set aside $10-$20 weekly to keep your stockpile quantity # at your predetermined
amount. Buy those items that are on sale with coupons
Once this is set in motion (which will take 6-8 weeks) your grocery budget should be able to be reduced by a significant amount for needed items. It is important at this point that you do
not increase your spending to buy things you normally wouldn’t. Simply stated the pleasure comes when the payoff is done. In other words, work diligently at paying off your outstanding debts with your savings on groceries. Let’s look at an example:
Weekly grocery budget before couponing—$300
Weekly grocery budget after 6-8 weeks of couponing—$80
Your weekly savings profit—$220
This $220 should be used for payoff not pleasure. This should also mean that your eating habits do not change as your savings increases until you have paid off outstanding expenses.
In the next article we will take a look at setting up a plan for short term and long term goals and developing a budget to help us get on our way to financial freedom.

When We Say, “Be It Unto Me”
At the start of this year God placed a desire in my heart that I believe is His desire for His people—“A people sold out to follow His will for their lives with an anticipation and promise of provision.” I began seeking the Lord on this message He prompted me to carry to His people and as I did doors began to open up for speaking opportunities across the nation.
We have heard from many great preachers and teachers a message like this before, however we still see so many people lacking the determination to follow through with what God wills for their life, thus keeping them in bondage to their comfort zones where they know what to expect. The message I want to share with you is a message of real experience not just words of “You can do it.” Motivation is a great thing, but I believe it is when motivation meets “real people with real challenges and real victories that success can be achieved. Today I see many people telling of their triumphs and encouraging others to do the same. The problem I see with this is they fail to tell the emotions and trials that occur on the way to victory. The bar is set so high for people they feel they can never do what others have done. The truth is this—“We all can achieve victory through the plan of God for our lives, however we all get there along the path of persistence, sweat and continued effort. When you think it can’t get worse and it looks like all hope is gone, this is the time to prepare for the victory and push through the trials.
In this article I want to be totally transparent with you regarding the call God has placed on my life so you too can reach the success God wants for your life. At the beginning of the year God asked me to step out and offer myself to speak in areas other than couponing, more along the lines of becoming successful through the gift God places within us. I was prompted to write my book, “Exploding Into Successful Entrepreneurship—Bringing Your God Given Gift To The Surface For Success.” This book was a story of what God has been teaching me over the last 22 years of my life. The first thing I want to tell you is this—“When God moves you in a direction, expect the enemy to throw roadblocks to challenge you.” It is not Satan’s desire that you live in the abundance God has planned for you. 1 Thessalonians 2:18 states, “We wanted very much to come to you, and I, Paul, tried again and again, but Satan prevented us.” Now keep in mind Satan can only challenge if the Lord allows this (Remember Job). It is times like these we can often wonder why God doesn’t just clear the way and keep us from these challenges. We must remember, “ I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world,” John 16:33. God goes with us through the trials and promises to strengthen us. It is through these challenges that determination is built and mountains are climbed.
Opportunities for speaking began to open up for me across the nation, however as I continued writing this book one challenge after another presented itself to try and hinder the progress. The day I picked them up from the printers was a day of victory and accomplishment after several weeks of challenge. Finally the day came for my first long distance speaking engagement to Chicago and Colorado. The week we were supposed to leave presented us with a number of challenges. We had money set aside for this trip when $1400 worth of immediate mechanical and technical issues depleted our source of supply. At this point it was determination or defeat. We determined God had ordained this trip and began praying and moving forward without any sign of provision. God miraculously poured in what it had cost us in repairs through sponsors for this trip. Let me say we were down to 5 days before departure. Yes, God does often come in the midnight hour. You have heard it said, “He’s never early, but right on time.” The key is knowing He has ordained the appointment and He will deliver the provision.
Our Chicago trip was a tremendous spiritual success as confirmation was received by some on callings God had spoken to people and many were excited about what God would do in their lives. These are the positive things you look for and expect as you step out into what God ordains. God provided the funds to continue the trip to Colorado where we knew God had a purpose in our lives and the lives of others. Once again we saw God present some wonderful opportunities to help others from the campground we stayed at to the expo I spoke at. It is important to remember that when God places a call on your life it has a three-fold purpose-- to bring glory to Him, success to you and blessing to others. At the end of this expo in Colorado our mission came to a close with now only the trip home remaining. Many challenges presented themselves including a busted valve on our vehicle, 4 blown tires and a busted water heater on our camper. Most of our challenge seemed to hit in Kansas and I joked about feeling like Dorothy just wanting to go home. Seriously though, the emotional frustrations do attack and question our direction many times. It is at times like these we have to remember , “the steps of the righteous are ordered of the Lord.” Psalm 37:23 These are also the times we must look for the good in where we are, what we’ve been doing and know that there is a purpose for where we are as well. One of the hardest points for man is to have a plan (ours was going home) and not being able to carry it out as you had planned. What you do at this point will determine how fast you achieve success. Disappointments will cause us to make one of two choices—determination or depression. Determination will enable you to see God in everything confessing, “If I can’t get there God must have something for me to do here.” Depression will cause you to say, “I will never step out to follow again unless I am in control.” Obviously, we can know which decision God is looking for, but it is often a battle to lay down our will. It especially becomes hard when provision seems to arrive slower than we like leaving us uncomfortable. By uncomfortable I am going to be very real with you here—our struggle meant survival food and no hot water. The end result God provided through sponsorship to get us home.
Will we go again? The answer is “yes.” Why? Because where God calls, God has a plan to bring about completion and has established provision. His plan has a purpose to help others who He is depending on us to reach with hope and purpose.
Is this living successfully you may be wondering? I believe God desires for His people to experience success in all parts of their lives spiritually, emotionally, financially and physically. I am reminded however, that on the way to the promised land God led the people out of the bondage of Egypt but through the wilderness. When it came time to possess the land the giants brought fear and frustration to the people. They basically said we can see it, but we don’t have what it takes to possess it. It was how the people responded to the giants that determined if they reached their destination successfully. Joshua and Caleb saw the giants but proclaimed, “Let’s go take the land, we can do it.” (Numbers 13:30-33) The (discouraged) people determined at this point to pick a new leader and head back to Egypt. The result was this—only Joshua and Caleb and all under the age of 20 entered the promised land. Success is experienced by the determined. I want to share a quote with you from Thomas Edison, “ Many of life's failures are experienced by people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.”
So what is required to enter into a life successful in all ways? It requires a person to proclaim, “Be It Unto Me.” Mary made this proclamation allowing God to direct the course of her life. Her plan was to become a wife and mother, just like all the other women she knew. What did she receive when she accepted the call of God on her life? A life of more than she could have dreamed! Not only was she a wife and mother, but she become the mother of God’s son and the gift took her places she would have never dreamed of. How did Mary position herself to answer this call?
Mary knew who she was to God—“Thou are highly favored.” She had an open mind!
Mary cast out fear—“..You have nothing to fear, “ the angel told her. She had a controlled mind!
Mary was willing to learn—“How can this be,” she asked. She didn’t say, “This can’t happen.”
Mary trusted—“..The power of the highest will hover over you.” She believed in God’s ability.
Mary sought out support---“Elizabeth conceived a son, old as she is, nothing you see is impossible with God.” She went to see Elizabeth who could testify to God’s ability.
In order to live successfully we must : Know who we are to God, Remove fear and doubt, Seek answers, Trust in God’s ability to produce and Surround ourselves with positive people who will believe with us.
My prayer for you is that you leave Egypt (the comfort zone that keeps you in bondage) to enter the promised land (the fullness of God’s blessings that manifest itself in success spiritually, physically, emotionally and financially). I pray that you take the challenges with the mind of Joshua and Caleb and speak forth, “Let’s go get what God has for us, we can do this.” May confidence be high, fear be nonexistent, trust be ever present, wisdom be your guide and provision be readily available as you move into God’s will for your life.

I can’t afford to coupon
Have you ever found yourself so financially strapped that you wonder how you can afford to coupon? The things you need for survival food (meat, veggies, milk, etc..) and survival hygiene items (detergent, shampoo, trash bags, etc…) aren’t on sale when you have to have them?
I believe this financial dilemma is more common than we think. So many people are living paycheck to paycheck and the dream of stockpiling is replaced by the need to survive from week to week. So is there a solution for the would be if could be couponer? I believe there is and in this article I want to help you stock up without starving with a few simple tips. I am going to use two approaches to benefit the one who has coupons and the one who has been unable to buy the Sunday papers to receive the coupons. No matter which category you fall into I believe these tips will help you add more to your pantry without taking more from your wallet. How do I know? I have lived it!
Let’s look at an example of how this can work to your benefit:
You are completely out of milk—Do you go to the store and buy the milk or is there a way to get the cereal as well adding to your breakfast stockpile? Absolutely! This is how I do it…….
I find Corn Pops on sale (the big box) 2/$5 at Walgreen’s. I earn a $2 RR (register reward) for purchasing the two. I now use my $2 RR to purchase my gallon of milk which is $2.89 In other words I receive—
2 Big Boxes of Corn Pops + 1 Gallon of Milk for $5.89 WITHOUT COUPONS (with my $.50/2 coupon it would cost me $5.39)
Wouldn’t generic be cheaper you may ask? Let’s see….
2 Same Size Boxes of Generic Corn Pops + 1 Gallon of Milk would be $6.89 Without Coupons (with $.50/2 at WalMart =$6.39) At a double coupon store it would be $5.39, the same as the drug store but not name brand.
It pays to look for something you know you will need and buy it to help pay for what you currently need. (Bargain hunt at your drug stores like Walgreen’s, CVS, and Rite Aid to help you do this.)
Here’s another example I recently did at a Walgreen’s store:
Pepsi Next 2 Liters were on sale for $.99. With purchase of two you received a Catalina Coupon for $.50 off another two. This made for two more bottles at $.50 each. (To discover the Catalina deals printing at your stores go to couponnetwork.com and choose your stores.)
Obviously, you can’t get everything you need at the drug stores. However, many of the food items are often overlooked because of the misconception that it is just too costly. In actuality when you take advantage of the drug store reward programs to buy those needed items you come out ahead and receive more for your money. Remember though it only pays off if the item is a reward item, on sale or both.
I have said before, “People perish for lack of knowledge NOT lack of resources.” Hosea 4:6 If we have lack in our lives, there is always a resource to meet the need, sometimes it just requires us to think outside the box and try something we haven’t tried before. It will always require effort. Anything worth obtaining must become so desired that we are willing to do what we can to acquire it. To remain needy is to quit looking for resources as to live abundantly is to search out the resources God has given us to obtain abundance.

Shopping At Kroger’s
If Kroger’s is your favorite store to shop at, what are the deals that deliver the biggest discounts with coupons? Let’s take a look at some different type deals you find worth the effort at your Kroger’s store and how they work.
10 for $10—You may purchase only 1 of these items and still pay just $1. Watch for things like Weber’s Seasoning, Hormel Pepperoni, Toothpaste, Deodorant, Kroger brand buns, fresh carrots, and more. Many will have manufacturer coupons, however store coupons you receive in the mail will often have coupons for Kroger brand buns and fresh produce, like carrots. Keep in mind the coupons you receive in the mail (the red & tan ones) are generally generated based on your previous buying patterns. So a good way to get more coupons for certain items is to buy those items.
$5 Catalina with purchase of $20—Deals like this will issue you a Catalina worth $5 off your next shopping order when you make a purchase of specified items that equal $20. This is a good time to do a couple of transactions. Buy your $20 worth of items using coupons in transaction #1 and pay for milk, fresh veggies, meat, etc.. in transaction #2 with your $5 Catalina. This way you won’t forget you have it and lessen your chance of it expiring.
$3 Catalina with purchase of 10 items PLUS $3 discount on 10—This type of deal can be a little confusing. Basically it works like this: Purchase 10 participating items and the cash register will deduct $3 and print you out a $3 Catalina. In summary you save $6 by purchasing 10 participating items. This makes for a great deal when you apply coupons on the items.
$4 off 4 or $5 off 10 Mix and Match or Mega Deals—These deals are frequent, especially the $5 off 10 items. Very simply stated; the register will take off $5 or $4 depending on which one they are offering when you purchase 10 of those items. “But, I only want 6 of the offered items,” you may say. Here’s how you do it, so you don’t miss your $5. Find 4 items that are offered that are lowest in cost (many times this will be tuna, single serve mac & cheese, and others.) Use these items to make up the difference. It is worth grabbing them so you don’t miss out on the $5. Generally they will run $.49, therefore four of these would be $2 meaning you still save $3 on the items you wanted. They can always be passed on to a food bank.
Save $2 WYB $10 worth—This deal works when you purchase $10 worth of participating items. An instant $2 will be deducted from your total purchase. Very similar to the Mega Deals other than the fact your purchase is based on dollar amount other than quantity purchased.
Always keep a look out for mark down items that are soon to expire. You will often find these in the dairy section. In our house these items are usually used up quickly so their quality remains good. Don’t forget—if you shop at Kroger’s you are accumulating gas points.
Now for some good news! If you have been watching to see when we hit the target for the Kroger gift card deal, the time has arrived. The deal is on! Order your $5 Kroger gift card on our website for $5 (no shipping charge) and use this card regularly to pay for your gas, groceries and prescriptions. Simply reload it right in the checkout lane. It’s fast and easy and it enables you to be entered for a $25 grocery giveaway monthly. The winners will be contacted via email and listed on our website. First drawing will take place May 25 th, so hurry and get your cards. When you do this you are also supporting our ministry. Kroger’s donates 4% to Ann Haney Ministries of the total loaded on these cards. If you have been to my workshops you have heard me teach on “Give and It shall be given unto you.” Giving reaps blessing upon your household and allows this ministry to continue to share what I’ve shared with you. If you have experienced savings, help me pass on the knowledge of saving to others as well.

Training Children To Choose Christ-Like Friends
Part 7
I want to introduce you to another type of friend you may encounter. These friends are called “Two Way” Friends. Two Way friends are someone who treats another as a best friend, but talks about them behind their back. This type of friendship is not one you need. This child is one who exhibits two behaviors, one when you are around and another for when you aren’t.
You may wonder what causes someone to do this. It usually is their desire to be accepted amongst others. Their own lack of insecurity is the drive behind their deception. Think about it—“if they are degrading others, they are probably degrading you when you aren’t around as well.”
Where can we find Biblical proof of this type of friendship in the Bible? Jeremiah 9:8 talks of this kind of person saying, “Their tongue is a deadly arrow it speaks with deceit, with his mouth each speaks cordially to his neighbor, but in his heart he sets a trap for him.” Do not associate with others who show themselves friendly to someone and talk about them behind their back. The Lord will punish these type of people for they do not obey His law, which states “love your neighbor.” Jeremiah 20:10-11 says,
“I hear many whispering, terror on every side! Report him! Let’s report him! All my friends are waiting for me to slip saying, ‘Perhaps he will be deceived; then we will prevail over him and take revenge on him.’ But the Lord is with me like a mighty warrior; so my persecutors will stumble and not prevail. They will fail and be thoroughly disgraced; their dishonor will never be forgotten.”
This friend “secretly” hopes in the failure of someone else. A true friend will speak the truth to one another in hopes of helping one another. Proverbs 2:6 says,
“Faithful are the wounds of a friend, but the kisses of an enemy are lavish and deceitful.”
Choose to be a trustworthy and honest friend, the kind you hope others will be to you!

Reflecting On Life
This week I felt the need to speak to you on concentrating on the simple things often forgotten in life. Life has a tendency to become so busy as we strive to find the resources to enhance our life financially and deal with daily routines. Work and tasks will always be a part of our lives, but our lives are meant for more than this. God wants His children to take time to focus on building meaningful relationships, enjoying the simple things that nature provides and the joys of helping others find hope. So often a disappointment or a challenge can leave us questioning or complaining and looking for an answer to make up for a lost opportunity. I want to pose a question to you. Could the lost opportunity actually be an opportunity for something else God wants to bless you with or an opportunity of a different kind?
Over the last few days the Lord has been showing me that what I planned does not always happen, but if I am willing to move forward in peace I will experience a greater blessing than what my plan could have held. A few days ago I was eagerly awaiting a meeting that would open up some potential for my ministry. However, the meeting did not come about. As I waited an opportunity at the time the meeting was to occur arose for me to share God’s love and purpose for our lives with a young man who had been facing drug addictions, anxiety, and depression. I was able to spend about an hour sharing my testimony of God’s faithfulness and desire to help him discover the plan He had for this young man’s life. God knew this was more important than my meeting. Meetings can be rescheduled, but lives can’t. I can’t tell you how blessed I was when I left. I wondered if this divine appointment was not for me as well. istSometimes we just need to reflect on things of greater value and allow God to direct those steps. Let me also say, my meeting did come about, but it was in God’s timing. We must be willing to let God change our plans. Allowing Him to do this brings greater blessing to your life than what you think you want.
“We can make our plans, but the LORD determines our steps.”
Proverbs 16:9
As I sit here and write this today, I am in a beautiful town where I was to present 3 classes. One of the classes had no turnout and my plans became restructured. I found the greatest blessing with this time of change as I decided to take my children to the park until time for the other class. I did not expect what followed; the most beautiful serene park overlooking a lake, ducks swimming, sun shining, breeze blowing, and hills in the background. As I sit here, I can’t help but thank God for changing my plans and helping me reflect on the beauty and peacefulness of just sitting in His presence and taking time to listen. Was my time wasted or costly? Not at all, I not only received a refreshing, but received several emails from people wanting to attend tonight’s class. I believe we just need little reminders that a change in our plans is blessing to discover. We can approach the change with frustration resulting in the inability to discover something greater OR we can say, “what opportunity awaits me now?” What causes us to so often stress out when we aren’t constantly working and making what we believe to be financial or productive progress? I believe it is fear! Fear of losing an opportunity to bring about progress in our lives. However, what is often happening is a setback as we fail to see the new opportunity that awaits. Taking time to enjoy what doesn’t often seem like progress is God’s way of helping you reach your goal quicker. God doesn’t want you to achieve success financially, without achieving success emotionally, physically and mentally. If those areas aren’t growing you aren’t going to find happiness.
My challenge to you is this: The next time something doesn’t go the way you want it to or think it should, make up your mind to look for an opportunity to be refreshed or refresh someone else. There is a reason for the change of plans and it may be to change you into someone who is well balanced, emotionally, physically, mentally and spiritually.

Publix Pays Off
Are you a fan of Publix or are you among those who think Publix prices are higher than other stores? If you are among the latter, I must say I used to feel the same way. However, with couponing you will virtually fall in love with this store. So how do you save at Publix, you may be wondering. In this article I am going to tell you, but first we must clearly understand the stores policy regarding the handling of coupons.
Publix Store Policy:
*Coupons $.50 or less double everyday
*Wednesday Publix offers a Publix brand item for $.01 with any $10 purchase (Some stores require you to have the coupon for this, while others do not. Ask your local store. The coupon is generally found in the Wed. local paper. You will want to check a blog site like www.iheartpublix.com to find out what the penny item is going to be to see if It is worth the cost of the Wed. paper, sometimes it is.)
*Senior day is every Wednesday 5% discount for age 65 and older.
*Overage is given as a rollover on other products if your coupon exceeds the amount of the item.
*Buy one get one free items usually have a limit of 10 per person. Coupons may be used on each item because they scan ½ price. (If you only have 1 coupon you may choose to purchase only 1 and you will still receive the deal.
*A manufacturer coupon and a store coupon may be used on one item. This is referred to as stacking and will give you 2 discounts on 1 item.
*A manufacturer coupon and a competitor coupon may be used on one item. However, you may not use a manufacturer + a store+ a competitor coupon on the same item. Competitor coupons vary per store and knowledge regarding your store policy can be found on the rack at the front of the store on the “Coupon Policy Pamphlet.” Most will generally be Target, Food Lion, or Target.
Now that we have the basic policy down, what should we look for to discover the greatest savings at Publix? The greatest savings will generally be found by watching for the Buy One Get One Free deals that are offered every week. Match up your coupons with these sales first, they will deliver deals that are huge money savers. Other deals can be found in the Advantage Buy Flyers located at the front of the store by the weekly ad. These flyers are put out at the first of the month (one is yellow with food deals, the other green with non-food deals) These sales last all month long and pair nicely with coupons. Located in the flyers you will find coupons that are referred to as store coupons. You can distinguish them by the LU# on the coupon face. (Some may be manufacturer so look closely.) Another great way to save is with their coupon booklets. Most stores will get these in on a regular basis. You will need to ask at the service desk for any available store coupons. Sometimes you will find some coupons near the ad or stationed throughout the store. Publix is a bonanza of coupons for the grocery saver.
It is important to mention that rain checks are given for out of stock items. Rain checks are good for 30 days, however if the store does not get in the item in the 30 day time span they will reissue another rain check. Publix has the best customer service by far. You can be confident when shopping at Publix for a smooth sailing trip.

Training Children To Choose Christ Like Friends Part 6
We have talked about good friends to look for, now it’s time to look at friendships that require you to “proceed with caution.” These are what I call the “be prepared to stop friendships.” These friends do not generally produce good fruit. What are some indicators of a friend that could hinder your child’s spiritual growth? Let me say, these type of friends are not beyond help, but the question is rather, “should your child be the one to try and help them?”
Proceed With Caution Friends:
--a child who criticizes his parents
“The eye that mocks a father, that scorns obedience to a mother will be pecked out by the ravens of the valley, will be eaten by the vultures.” Proverbs 30:17
--a child who disrespects any authority figure (even in a joking manner)
“Obey your spiritual leaders and submit to them [continually recognizing their authority over you] for they are constantly keeping watch over your souls and guarding your spiritual welfare, as men who will have to render an account [of their trust.] [Do your part to] let them do this with gladness and not with sighing and groaning for that would not be profitable to you [either.] Hebrews 13:7
--a child who constantly debates unimportant things to prove himself right
“Remind [the people] of these facts and [solemnly] charge them in the presence of the Lord to avoid petty controversy over words, which does no good but upsets and undermines the faith of the hearers. 2 Timothy 2:14
--a child who always complains and speaks nothing positive
“Do everything without complaining or arguing.” Phil. 2:14
--a child who puts own desires above God’s (anything from disobeying God’s word to putting other events before church)
“They will be treacherous betrayers, rash, and inflated with self-conceit. [They will be lovers of sensual pleasures and vain amusements more than and rather than lovers of God.”]2 Tim 3:4
--a child who is constantly bragging about self
“Lift not up your [aggressive] horn on high, speak not with a stiff neck and insolent arrogance.” Psalm 75:5
--a child who alters their appearance to gain acceptance
“Walk and live [habitually] in the Holy Spirit, [responsive to and controlled and guided by the Spirit]; then you will certainly not gratify the cravings and desires of the flesh (of human nature without God.)” Galatians 5:16
“Now am I trying to win favor of men, or of God? Do I seek to please men? If I were still seeking popularity with men, I should not be a bond servant of Christ (the Messiah).” Galatians 1:10
In 2 Timothy 4:10 Paul talks of Demas, who once was a friend of his, who returned to his worldly ways (devoted to or concerned with the affairs, pleasures, etc… of this world—by definition.) Demas along with others conducted street ministry that brought new believers to Paul for discipleship. During Paul’s second imprisonment, however, Demas deserted him and returned to his love for worldliness. We see here a prime example of someone putting his own desires above that of God. In James 4:4 it warns us “Anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God.” Paul goes on to talk of another friendship turned bad in verse 14. He talks of Alexander, stating “Alexander the coppersmith did me great wrongs. The Lord will pay him back for his actions. Beware of him yourself for he opposed and resisted our message very strongly and exceedingly.” It is believed that this once believer turned blasphemer due to loss of business under the impact of the gospel of Paul. In this example we see another friend concerned more for the things of this world than that of Christ. Beware of those who resist the message of Christ to follow the message of the world. Another good example of worldliness is that of the prodigal son. He had a love of money and the world and it brought him to a place of recklessness with his life, which eventually led him to a position of slavery. We must encourage our children to stay away from friendships centered around the things of this world. The list is unending to what these can be: drugs, sex, alcohol, revealing and improper apparel, or anything that focuses on drawing attention to oneself through outward appearance or actions. The problem with these actions are that they are birthed out of an insecurity in the self-worth of that individual and therefore they are led by their desire to be accepted rather than knowing who they are in Christ and relying upon His acceptance of them. Usually those who feel the need to change to be like the world are seeking the world’s approval. Most of the time these children will do whatever it takes in search of feeling good about themselves and their conscience is often seared as to what is right and wrong in the eyes of God. It is seen among many youth today that claim they are Christians, living for God (and believe they truly are), when in fact their actions oppose that of what the word tells us is Christ-like. This is a danger zone. We must teach our children the scriptures concerning the behaviors of this world to reveal what Christ expects of them today.

Discount Stores & Couponing
Can you coupon at the dollar stores? Is it worth the couponing effort to cut those coupons for discounts at the dollar stores? What about store coupons, do they have any? In this article we are going to take a look at which discount stores allow coupons and which don’t by looking into their store policies.
Here is a list of those who accept coupons and those who do not:
Do— Don’t--
Dollar General Big Lots
Family Dollar Dollar Tree
Dollar General Market
(This is a general guideline for most of these stores)
Now let’s look at their policies:
(Dollar General, Family Dollar and Dollar General Market generally all have the same policy.)
They do not double coupons
Stacking Is allowed if the store has a store coupon available
BOGO coupons are accepted
No doubling of coupons
Must follow coupon terms
You may be wondering what coupons are actually available in regard to store coupons. In the case of Family Dollar most of their store coupons will be in their ad and will indicate “store coupons.” Generally these can be stacked with a manufacturer coupon to receive 2 discounts on one item. In the case of Dollar General and Dollar General Market store coupons are often found in “coupon promotional booklets” that appear occasionally in store. You may find these on the same rack as their ad or on a display board or in some cases you may have to ask if you do not see any. These are only offered occasionally, but offer great deals for the money saving mom. I have seen these booklets for discounts on items like Lloyd’s BBQ, French’s Mustard, etc… and you will frequently find these coupons in the Free Standing Inserts in the Sunday paper. Generally, the discounts are already higher at these stores and when you stack 2 coupons the price becomes very affordable. I have received many name brand cleaning products for $.50 as a result of scoping out the bargain.
You may be inclined to just stop in the dollar or discount store without a coupon, but remember every little bit you save adds up to a lot more than you think. Diligence pays off with great wealth. The first 17 weeks I tracked my savings and found out I saved $3400. So take my word for it $50 here $100 there makes a huge difference.
“Poor is he who works with a negligent hand, but the hand of the diligent makes rich.”
Proverbs 10:4
Diligently search out the coupons for the dollar stores and discover a savings that pays off.

Shopping at Wal-Mart
I have heard many concerns regarding Wal-Mart’s acceptance of coupons. Many have found themselves challenged when it comes to using coupons at Wal-Mart. First of all, let me remind you that each store can vary according to the manager’s discretion. However, there are some basic rules to follow when shopping at Wal-Mart. Let’s review their policy:
- They match competitor ads.
Prices will be matched for loyalty shopper card prices, however, if the deal is given at the competitor based on a specific # of items being purchased this will not apply to your purchase of a single item. For example, if Kroger’s has dressing for $1.25 with Kroger card they will match it. But, if the dressing is in a mega deal where the requirement is to purchase 10, they will not generally match this.
Remember the ad must have the specific price point of the item and the description, ounces, etc.. must match. On BOGO deals the ad must state a specific retail value. Wal-Mart will not give you this deal based off of their shelf price.
- They do not double coupons.
- They do not generally accept other store coupons
- Catalina’s from other stores are accepted if they state manufacturer and have a specific regular retail amount for the product shown and do not say “redeemable only at.”
Let me clarify this a bit. Catalina’s generally do state manufacturer even though they were printed at a specific store. As long as the Catalina does not say it can only be used at that store it is a coupon that will be redeemed to Wal-Mart from the manufacturer. Very rarely however, do I see Catalina’s that give the specific price point of the item. Register Rewards, although they are Catalina’s are usually excluded from this rule.
- Overage is given in cash or rolled over onto other products if the coupon exceeds the value of the item. Most all Wal-Mart’s do this.
- They accept most internet printable coupons
Now this is an area where coupons are generally scrutinized a little more. Due to the increase in Extreme Couponing these coupons are checked for copying, faulty coupons, etc.. I have found this area to not be worth trying myself. I have found using free standing coupons much easier to use and printables not worth the effort. If you do choose to use these coupons I would personally ask the Customer Service Manager or Store Manager their specific policy on this before trying to use them. This way you will have permission and will know who you talked with when you get to the checkout.
- Some will allow you to use a BOGO coupon with another $off coupon for the one you are paying full price for.
This will vary per store. I have seen some who do accept this and some who don’t. Again ask before you try, it saves frustration and embarrassment.
- Most stores will allow a competitor ad with a coupon
Overall, my advice would be this—Wal-Mart can save you money if you shop wisely, however, grocery stores often can give you more for your money because of their more consumer friendly policies. To get the most for your money at Wal-Mart you will need to Competitor Ad shop and apply coupons to your purchase. Otherwise, you will find that even generic can end up costing you more money. Don’t get discouraged when couponing at Wal-Mart. Slow and steady does it.
Haven't I commanded you? Strength! Courage! Don't be timid; don't get discouraged. God, your God, is with you every step you take."

Training Children To Choose Christ-Like Friends
Part 5
Let’s take a look at another road sign friend, the “U-turn friend.” Most of us fall into the category of the U-turn friend. We have made past mistakes and repented and Christ has erased our sins and we are now striving to bear “good fruit” and run the race till we see Jesus. We have turned our lives around to follow the correct road for our life. Wouldn’t it be ideal if you could find a friend who had never faced challenging situations, who never missed the mark, who was never rude, and held all the answers to everything you would ever face? This friend does not exist. The Bible tells us “there is none righteous, no not one” in Romans 3:10. The only perfect friend is Jesus! So I ask you, “What about the potential friend who is on the right road, but has a past of bad turns behind them?” Do you give this person a chance to be a potential friend?” Absolutely yes!
Let’s look at a situation from the Bible on this matter. Acts 9:26-28 states,
“And when he had arrived in Jerusalem, he (Paul) tried to associate himself with the disciples, but they were all afraid of him, for they did not believe he really was a disciple. However, Barnabas took him and brought him to the apostles and he explained to them how along the way he had seen the Lord, who spoke to him, and how at Damascus he had preached freely, confidently, and courageously in the name of Jesus, so he went in and out [as one] among them at Jerusalem.”
Paul had a past that was anything but Christ-like. In fact he was someone they feared coming in contact with, let alone considering him a friend. What changed their mind? What caused them to overlook his terrible past sins and accept him as their friend? He encountered Christ and was forgiven his past and allowed Christ to change his present. The fruit he was now producing was “good fruit.” Thus, “you will know them by their fruit.” Friends should not be based upon their past mistakes, but on their present fruits. After all, how many of us can say we have no regrets for anything in our past? The Bible makes it very clear in Luke 6:37-38 that we are not to judge lest we be judged, forgive so we will be forgiven, and in the measure we give it will be given to us. If we experience God’s amazing grace in our own lives, should we not also express grace to others?

The Confusion of Catalinas Clarified
Catalinas can often be quite confusing for the couponer for many reasons. What stores give them, what stores take them, how do they work, how do you get them, and so on? Before we take a look into the details surrounding this often confusing discount coupon lets discover what they actually are.
Catalinas are manufacturer coupons printed out by some stores based upon what you have purchased. For instance, if you purchased one brand you might receive a Catalina coupon for a competitor brand to encourage the purchase. Often times the Catalina will be for a specific amount off your next purchase. For instance it may say purchase 2 receive $1, 3 receive $2, 4 or more receive $3 etc.. You will often recognize this coupon by its long rectangular shape. You will note that it states manufacturer and has a date of expiration. Most times they will also show the store logo of the store you received it at.
What stores offer Catalinas? Some of the stores you may see these at are:
Target Food Lion Walgreen’s Kroger’s Kmart
How can I find out what Catalinas will print out? Because Catalinas are based on what we purchase, it helps to find out what our purchase needs to be to receive this coupon. One website you can go to that will help you plan the print of the Catalinas you want to receive is couponnetwork.com. First, register on their site. Second, choose the stores in your area you want to include. Third, Click on my stores to see the offers available. Fourth, the offers that appear in blue are actual coupons you can print and the offers that appear in green are Catalinas being offered. (You will have to print out the Catalina offer to see details as to how many of the specified item you must purchase to receive the discount shown. (Keep in mind this specific print out is not a coupon, but an informative as to the details of the offer.)
What if my Catalina does not print out? Yes, you can still get your Catalina. Simply call this number 1-888-8coupon and give them your receipt number and if requested your loyalty shopper card number. They will mail your Catalinas to you within 6 weeks.
Can I use Catalinas at a store different than the one I received it at? This question could have different answers based upon the specific stores policy. First, we need to remember that Catalinas are manufacturer coupons and are reimbursed to the store, however some stores will refuse the acceptance of a Catalina with a different stores logo on it. If the coupon is a $ off amount for instance ($2 off Scott tissue) it will generally depend on the stores policy regarding this. Many times if the coupon scans they will take it, however, be sure and ask before you try to insure success. Most all stores will decline Catalinas from other stores that state “Only redeemable at.” Likewise, most all stores will decline Catalinas that say $$ off your next shopping trip if it was not received from that specific store. (Now this is not the case with all stores, so you will need to check your specific store.) The Commissary and The Exchange both accept these type of Catalinas.
Can I use Catalinas in my same shopping trip? Yes, you may use these the same day received. Simply divide your transaction if you know you will be receiving them and use them to pay for milk, meat, fresh veggies, fruit, or anything you don’t have a coupon for or want to save money on.
It is possible to save big when you learn how to use the Catalina. Use your resources, talk to the stores regarding their policies and you will be on your way to taking advantage of the great benefits of the Catalina. As with anything, the more you learn about it the better chance you will have of success!
“ With all thy getting get understanding,”
Prov. 4:7

Training Children to Choose Christ-Like Friendships
Part 4
This article will be the first in a series of illustrated messages in regard to friendships and road signs. The first one I want to take a look at is “One Way” Friends. A one way friend is a person who is living for Jesus and not ashamed to say they are a Christian. They encourage your child to keep their eyes on the straight and narrow road and will not turn off of this road for anyone else. They will travel it alone before they follow the direction of the majority of the traffic. They will stop along the road to help others who are in need while pointing them toward Jesus.
The Bible has much to say about this type of friend. They are a friend who sticks closer than a brother. Let’s look at what the apostle Paul had to say concerning his friends. In Romans 16:3-4 he regarded them as “helpers who risked their own lives for his.” Remember what Jesus said, “No greater love hath a man except a man lay down his life for his friend.” (John 15:13) Paul again in 2 Timothy 1:16-18 speaks of another friend of his, Onesiphorus, stating that he showed kindness and ministered to his needs and was not ashamed of his imprisonments. Onesiphorus even searched out Paul to help him. A “good” friend will not be embarrassed by your struggles, but will embrace them with you. This is the love a true friend. They are not ashamed when others face hardships, but go out of their way to help in the time of need. We experienced this test of friendship several years ago when the Lord led us in a direction which was not according to the world’s standards (it went against the normal flow of traffic.) By all appearance of our circumstance it looked as if we had not heard God’s voice. We found ourselves in a wilderness time that was very difficult and it was during this time we found out who our true friends were. Many viewed our imprisonments as an embarrassment and pitied us instead of supported us in our call. A Christ-like friend will be one who encourages, supports and ministers to your child when they are faced with struggles. They should be one that builds hope and discourages a “give-up, you must be doing something wrong” mentality.
Let’s take a look at another example of a friendship in the Bible that was not based on outward circumstances. In Mark 2:1-12 we find the story of the paralytic man who was brought to Jesus. It tells us the four men picked him up and carried him and when they hit opposition and could not get through the crowd they found another way. They dug through the roof of the house and scooped out an opening letting the man down before Jesus. Then in verse 5 it says, “Jesus was pleased with their faith.” They did not have a give up mentality and they would not let their friend either. Notice they picked him up(lifted him probably spiritually as well as physically), carried him (took the weight of his burden), dug through the roof (looked for a solution to the problem), scooped out the dirt (helped him get rid of everything that blocked him from seeing Jesus). This is a powerful example of a true friendship. Finding this type of friend is a real treasure. They are not self seeking and realize that friendship is more about giving than getting. This friend will work hard to help their friend see Jesus, even in challenging situations. They will not quit when the trial is long, difficult, or tiring. They will pray through and pray with their friend. Another fantastic story of this type of friendship is that of the good Samaritan. I love this story. Although everyone else walked by and ignored this man (even those who were of his own kind), the Samaritan stopped on his journey to become a friend to this man. In this case being a friend meant he gave assistance to him. He did not have to be a part of his crowd to be a friend to this man. We must remember Jesus was not a respecter of persons and we are not to be either. Now let’s look at an example of those who did not stand with their friend. This is told in the story of Job. When they saw how bad his trial was, they condemned him for what they did not understand. Their original intent was to comfort him, but when they saw all his troubles, they thought he must have done something to bring this on himself. They did not want to be associated with him and all his problems. In their eyes, this might have made them look bad, but in Christ’s the opposite was true. A good friend is not someone who has the answers to the situation, but someone who has the faith to pray with you for the answers. Job says in Job 6:14, “A despairing man should have the devotion of his friends.” Remember the “one way” friend is not a perfect person, however this friend is a true supporter of others.

Are you frustrated with the dilemma of not being able to find coupons for the items you use? Does it seem like you only receive coupons for things you don’t have need of? I think everyone at some time or another has faced this problem. So what is the solution you may be wondering? In this article I want to share with you some tips for obtaining the unobtainable and even give you some websites that will make your hunt less frustrating.
Here’s the scenario:
You just ran out of your favorite product and no coupons are in sight. Well, it looks like full price is in the future or is it?
Did you know that one of the best ways to find that needed coupon is by contacting the company directly that produces your product. Go to the company’s website and contact them via email and say something like this:
“I love your product, but my only problem is I can never find a coupon for it. Do you have any coupons for this product or know
where I might be able to obtain some?”
More times than not you will be sent a thank you for your commitment to their product and will receive coupons along with free samples in the mail. This usually pays off in a big way.
A second way to obtain those needed coupons is by visiting the company’s Facebok page. When you like them on Facebook you will generally receive free coupons. Yet another way to receive coupons for your favorite restaurants and stores is by signing up online or in store for their text message deals. I receive these from my favorite places (Mexican Restaurants, Target, Sonic). Many stores and restaurants now offer this capability.
Now for those coupon search sites as another source of locating a potential coupon. What are the best? Personally, my favorites for food related items are coupontom.com and a fullcup.com. For clothing and miscellaneous retail items you might choose from coouponsnapshot.com, retailmenot.com, couponsurfer.com, and couponpages.com. For restaurants a favorite is restaurant.com. Now what makes all of these so special? Let’s see!
Each of these serve as a navigatable website allowing you to search by store specific, item specific (in some cases as with the food related sites), and others just give you all the great deals.
Let’s look at one for example:
Couponsnapshot.com—At sites like couponsnapshot.com you can search you favorite store for an offered code and use it at the online store to receive great discounts. Like most other retail/clothing sites mentioned the coupons are free.
It always pays to do your homework to find that great deal on the item you need, especially if it is a reoccurring purchase for you. Your potential deals are only limited by your willingness to discover. Don’t be afraid of checking out new sites and contacting companies. You may find just what you are looking for!
“Poor is he who works with a negligent hand, but the hand of the diligent makes rich.”
Proverbs 10:4
If you neglect to uncover your options you will neglect to uncover your potential. Keep seeking and keep saving!

Training Children To Choose Christ Like Friendships
Part 3
The Bible tells us in Matthew 7:20, “You will fully know them by their fruits.” It is important we teach our children how to act as a wise person and how to identify a foolish one.
Let’s look at some of the wise friendships in the Bible. One of the best examples of this type of friendship is that of David and Jonathan. Jonathan said to David in 1 Samuel 20:42, “go in peace, we have sworn friendship with each other in the name of the Lord saying, ‘the Lord is between you and me’ and between your descendants and my descendants forever.” The Lord was the very center of their friendships. We see Jonathan and David met the first qualification for being wise (They had the fear of the Lord) The background of this story is Jonathan standing up to his father, King Saul, in David’s defense. Jonathan’s concern for his friends well being and innocence led him to help him escape. You might be saying, “now I know Jonathan was wise, but one of the characteristics of a wise man is to be obedient to his parent?” First of all parents should never expect their child to follow them in sin (in Jonathan’s case, this would be a witness to murder.) Jonathan had a choice to make. Would he fear his father or the Lord more? As we have seen, God has to be first and Jonathan knew this. He protected his friend at the risk of his own life.
In 1 Samuel 18:1 it says, “Jonathan became one in spirit with David and he loved him as himself.” Love was the foundation for his friendship. John 15:13 is where Jesus describes this type of love when He says, “no one has greater love [no one has shown stronger affection] than to lay down (give up) his own life for his friends.” We understand that Jesus was talking about the love He has for us in this verse. Since we are called to be like Him we know that we are to put ourselves second to that of our friends, just as Jonathan did. Romans 12:10 verifies this stating, “be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves.” Do your child’s potential friends care more about what they want than what your child wants? Do they always have to have it their way or no way? To understand this type of love we look to its definition in 1 Cor.13:4-8 “Love endures, it is patient, kind, not envious, not jealous, not boastful, not haughty, not conceited, not rude, does not act unbecomingly and does not insist on its own way, it is not touchy, resentful, does not hold a grudge, does not rejoice in wrong doing, it hopes, endures, believes, and does not fail or fall out.” 1 Cor. 13:13, “True love is [true affection for God and man, growing out of God’s love for and in us.]. Love is the basis for a Christ like friendship!
Below you will notice character traits of a wise man and that of a foolish man. Evaluate your friendships and that of your child’s on God’s expectations of what makes a person one of good character.

Blogging for Bargains
Sunday rolls around again and it’s time to pick up those Sunday papers and check out all the new deals. Does the thought of matching up all those sales with coupons put your head in a whirlwind? Maybe you just finished up last week’s deals and are still overwhelmed from the week before. This week I want to talk to you about the world of bloggers and how they benefit the busy couponer. Chances are you have heard of bloggers, but just logging on to their sites can be overwhelming. In this article I want to break down some of the benefits of the blog sites as well as help you understand how they work.
First, we need to understand what a coupon blog site does? Coupon Bloggers are your avenue to local store sales, store policies, printable coupon links, coupon tips, unadvertised deals, printable coupon links, best buys, retail roundups, free food roundup, recipes, organizational tips and coupon matchups. Probably the main reason people use blog sites is for the weekly coupon matchups. Coupon bloggers will list the weekly store sales with the coupons available that match. Most sites will allow you to print a matching coupon directly from their site if one is available. Usually available printables will be highlighted in blue and clicking on them will allow you to print them. These printable coupons are often generated by coupons.com, bricks, redplum.com, or smartsource.com. Most of these printable links will allow you to print 2 prints per like computer. Other coupon matchups are identified by type and date. When you see an abbreviation like “SS 1/12/10”, you can know it stands for Smart Source and tells you in came in the Sunday paper date Jan. 12, 2010. It is important to understand what these coupon lingo terms mean. (For detailed information about these terms, check out The Coupon Companion Handbook and The Couponer’s Guide to Drug Stores and More on my website :
http://www.annhaney.com/couponproducts
Another great thing about these bloggers is the listing of unadvertised deals. Bloggers have researched the stores unadvertised deals giving you time to prepare your plan before heading to the store. (I don’t know about you, but I don’t like spending more than 30 minutes in the grocery store, yet I still want to get the best bargains.) Preparation will save you frustration in the grocery store.
“Do your planning and prepare your fields before building your house.”
Proverbs 24:27
Although these sites are packed with information, it is important to find a blog site that is easy for you to navigate. One may be more clearly laid out than another. This is very important because a confusing site will cost you unnecessary time and turn your couponing into a frustration as opposed to a blessing. Not all sites will have the same content. For instance, you may like the “Retail Roundup” on one site and the “Coupon Match Up” on another. In this case use both sites to make your planning proficient and fruitful.
“Without consultation, plans are frustrated, But with many counselors they succeed.”
Proverbs 15:22
Finding a coupon blog site in your area can be found by typing in “coupon blog site (and zip code)” in a search engine. Bloggers can be found nationwide. Here is a list of a few good ones in the southern states:
Time2saveworkshops.com
Southernsavers.com
Moneysavingmom.com
Faithfulprovisions.com

Training Our Children to Choose Christ-like Friendships
Part 2
In part 1 we looked into friendships of Christ and discovered what made a person a friend of Christ. If you recall, Jesus said in John 15:14,
“You are my friends if you keep on doing the things I command you to do.”
In this part we are going to talk about two types of friendships in the Bible, “wise” and “foolish”, and see how they affected those involved. Before we do this though, I would like to answer three questions that I have been asked regarding friendships.
- At what age should children be able to recognize Christ-like fruit in others? To answer this I would suggest taking a look at the book of Proverbs with your child. If you have not done a study on this book of the Bible, you need to. It is amazing! Notice all the distinctions between wise and foolish. In the first chapter verse 7 states,
“But fools despise skillful and Godly wisdom, instruction, and discipline.”
If potential friends have no discipline or respond negatively to discipline this is not a friend that will lead others in a positive direction. If children do not obey their parents, who else will they not obey? (God, the law, teachers, etc…)
- How do we assess fruit within the framework that we are all on a spiritual journey and have faults? Here again I believe the above scripture says it all. If they have no desire to learn from their mistakes and their attitude reflects this unwillingness, they will not be a positive friendship. We will all make mistakes, but it is important that we have a desire to do right. Generally when we realize we have made a mistake or maybe we just need to know how to grow in an area, our response will be one that welcomes and respects the advice of those who seem to have the answer. My children don’t always immediately respond with thankfulness that I have corrected them, but once I have disciplined them, they are not as quick to make the same mistake again. We can look at our adult friendships in this way, also. When God disciplines us for something, aren’t we usually reminded of the consequences from the time before and more hesitant to make the same mistake again? It is very apparent when an attitude within a person (even a Christian person) is contradictory to God’s word and they really have no desire to change it. They believe they are ‘just fine’ the way they are. If we let our children hang around these people to long they will have a distorted view of Godly behavior.
- What about ‘good people’, not very far on their Christian journey who do some things we would not do? For instance, some of the movies they watch are clearly not good. Whatever a child lives at home will be the basis for their belief. If it is accepted in their home, to them it is okay. Their speech and behavior will definitely be affected. They will probably in their play time act like the characters they have seen and talk about them, also. Your child might be able to say something like, “I don’t watch that and I really don’t like to hear about it, can we talk about or play something else?” If the “potential friend” continues anyway, your child needs to separate from their influence, because to them this is not okay in the eyes of God. Take a look at 1 Cor. 8:13,
“Therefore if [my eating] food is a cause of my brother’s falling or of hindering [his spiritual advancement], I will not eat such flesh forever, lest I cause my brother to be tripped up and fall and be offended.”
Of course we know this scripture is ultimately talking about a Christian person hindering the faith of a weaker person. I believe that it should be our desire to not let the spiritual advancement of others as well as ourselves be hindered. We make it a practice in our home, that if we do something (we believe to be okay), but we have someone over to our house that does not believe it to be okay, we will not do it in their presence as to not offend. Often times God reveals things to each of us differently. As long as it does not directly go against God’s word, we need to understand we are all on different levels at different times in our lives.
Now, let’s take a look at the two types of friendships in regard to wise and foolish. Proverbs 13:20 states,
“He who walks [as a companion] with wise men is wise, but he who associates with [self-confident] fools is [a fool himself] and shall smart for it.”
The King James Version says—“shall be destroyed.” This lets us know that the character of the friends our children (or ourselves) associate with will become our/their character. With wise will become wise, with fools will become fools. We need to ask ourselves the question, “What classifies a person as wise or foolish?” If we are going to help our children choose wise friends, we must determine the characteristics of a wise person in contrast to that of a foolish person to help them identify the difference between the two. The best place to do this is in the book of Proverbs. In the first 4 verses it states the purpose of the book is to teach the young. The word “young” in verse 4 is ‘na ar’ in Hebrew meaning from infancy to adolescent. Isn’t it interesting that these things were to be taught at these ages? If we can teach our children during these crucial ages to identify between wise and foolish relationships we have given them a strong foundation for their future choices. It is much harder to instill these things at older ages. The saying is true, “it is hard to teach an old dog new tricks.” If we look back to verse 7 in chapter 1 we notice the first requisite for wisdom takes place. It states,
“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.”
In the very next verse it says,
“My son, hear the instruction of the father and forsake not the teaching of your mother.”
We begin to see God clearly lining up the chain of command for gaining wisdom. The beginning of wisdom is God, then father, and then mother. The word ‘instruction’ used in reference to the father in verse 8 means “to discipline, chastise, check, and rebuke” in Hebrew. It is the word ‘moo-sawr’. The word in Hebrew for ‘teaching’ in reference to the mother is ‘to raw’, meaning “to instruct, inform, show, direct, and teach.” Isn’t it interesting that the father is to be the disciplinarian and the mother is to be the teacher? The father is responsible for enforcing wisdom is taught and the mother is responsible for teaching it. Have you ever noticed children respond better to a dad’s discipline and a mother has a greater success in reaching their children through teaching? This obviously makes sense because of the order God ordained. Generally speaking there are more women teachers than men, not because they aren’t capable, but because this wasn’t God’s intention for them in relationship to the family.
In next week’s article I will give you a list of 32 scriptures identifying the wise and 46 identifying the foolish.

Training Your Children To Choose Christ-Like Friendships
Part 1
As I began to study God’s word on this subject I very quickly realized the full answer to training our children to choose Christ-like friendships could not be given in one article. The Bible has much to say about friendships, much more than I ever realized. I feel we need to know as much as we can about what the I have Bible has to say on this subject and therefore I have decided to break this down into 3 parts. I pray you will stay with me in this series and that God will direct your paths as you apply the truths in His word to the lives of your children.
First, I believe we must understand what the definition of a “friend” is. By definition the word “friend” means, “a person attracted to another by feelings of affection, a person who gives assistance or is a supporter, a person who is on good terms with another person.” In this definition we understand that a friend is a supporter of someone they are attracted to by feelings or better stated someone they have things in common with. I think it is very important that we understand that there can be both positive and negative friendships. There are friendships that lead to Christ and those that lead away from Him. To clearly identify the difference between these we need to look into friendships mentioned in the Bible and ask ourselves several questions. I believe the first and only place to begin is with Christ. In Proverbs :10 it says,
“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.”
What a statement this is! If we are going to gain wisdom in anything, we must first have a worshipful and reverent fear of the Lord and examine the life of Christ, to gain a complete understanding regarding everything. We must lay aside our reasoning, the worldly influences and our traditions and be open to the teaching of the Holy Spirit. God’s ways are not our ways and we must be willing to apply God’s word even if we cannot reason it out! The Bible tells us He is the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. It is important that He is the beginning of our child’s friendships and the end of our child’s friendships. What I mean by this is, “what goes into and comes out of their friendships should point to Christ. Others should clearly see this when they are around them.
The first question I want to explore with you is, “How did Jesus choose His friends?” We start in Matt. 4:18-23. I have chosen to list this whole scripture reference due to its great importance.
“As He was walking by the Sea of Galilee, He noticed two brothers, Simon, who is called Peter and Andrew, his brother, throwing a dragnet into the sea, for they were fishermen. And He said to them, Come after Me [as disciples-letting Me be your guide], follow Me and I will make you fishers of men. At once they left their nets and became his disciples [sided with His party and followed Him.] And going further from there He noticed two other brothers, James, son of Zebedee, and his brother John, in the boat with their father, Zebedee, mending their nets and putting them right: and He called them. At once they left the boat and their father and joined Jesus as disciples [sided with His party and followed Him]. And He went about all Galilee teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the good news [Gospel] of the Kingdom and healing every disease and every weakness and infirmity among the people.”
The first thing we notice is the word “left.” They had to “leave all,” which refers to “putting Him first.” Their first requirement to being a friend of Jesus’ was “putting Him first.” He had to be their guide, they had to follow Him and His vision and lose their own. In Luke 14:33 it tells us,
“So then any of you who does not forsake (renounce, surrender claim to, give up, say goodbye to) all that he has cannot be my disciple.”
To find positive friendships one must be sure that what feels good to the flesh is truly what is good. A good question to ask right here would be, “What made them choose to be Christ’s disciples?” They must have seen something in Christ that drew them to Him. This takes us to the second important thing in this scripture. Where did they “follow” him? They followed Him in teaching, preaching, and healing. Good fruit was produced when they followed Christ. When our children choose a friend, they need to determine what kind of fruit they see in the life of their potential friend, whether it be good or bad. Matthew 3:8 states,
“Bring forth fruit that is consistent with repentance [let your lives prove your change of heart.]”
I am going to jump ahead a little here and point out what should be done with an established friendship that is not producing good fruit. In Matthew 3:10 you will see,
“And already the ax is lying at the root of the trees, every tree therefore that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.”
I cannot stress this enough—cut off friendships that do not produce good fruit! If you don’t, it will ruin your child’s fruit. Jesus witnessed to the sinner; He didn’t have them in His inner circle of “good” friends. Matthew 7:18 says,
“A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.”
One cannot be a Christian and live a sinful life nor can a sinful person live a Christian life. Matthew 7:20 tells us,
“Therefore you will fully know them by their fruits.”
Moses addresses the congregation in Numbers 16:26 and says ,
“And he said to the congregation, depart, I pray you, from tents of these wicked men, and touch nothing of theirs, lest you be consumed in all their sin.”
I will be talking more about this in the next two parts. You might be asking yourself, “how do we minister to these people if we don’t become their friends?” The people Jesus had close fellowship with followed Him and His vision. When they no longer followed Him they were cut off from His fellowship (remember Judas.) Judas’ heart changed and he became a negative friendship (one that was not a supporter of or any longer affectionately attracted to Jesus.) They no longer had anything in common.
We know the Bible tells us they were His disciples (which means “followers”), but how do we know they we His friends? Take a look at John 15:14,
“You are My friends if you keep on doing the things which I command you to do.”
Remember the disciples left what they had to be taught by Jesus to do what He did. When they responded to the invitation of Jesus to “follow Him”, they had done what He invited them to do, making them His friends. If you remember Abraham was also called, “a friend of God.” He also left his current life and followed God doing what God commanded him, making him “a friend of God.” (Isaiah 41:8) Jesus indeed ministered to all, but not all were His friends. Only those that kept on doing the things which He commanded were considered friends.
In closing, it would be a good idea to sit down with your child or reexamine your own life and make a list of qualities you like in a friend. For example, if you say “kindness”; use a concordance now to find a scripture to back up this trait. A good one might be Ephesians 4:32 which states, “Be ye kind one to another.” By doing this we can confirm commands of Jesus that should be within the qualities of a friend.
Blessings to you as you examine the friendships in your life and those of your childrens.

Clearance Price Variations On Same Items
Clearance is in full swing in many stores, from retail to cosmetic to housewares. I have enjoyed shopping the clearance racks for all the great deals on clothes for my children and myself. My husband would say, “Clearance is my best friend.” This week I purchased a skirt ($40value) for both of my daughters for $6 each. The deals are definitely abundant, but there are a few things you need to know in spotting the “best” deal before you throw it in the cart and head to the checkout. This tip could save you as much as $5 off a specific item.
What is this savings tip that could save you $5 you may be wondering? Here’s the scenario:
You found a great pair of pants on the clearance rack for half of the original price. So excited about your great find you quickly throw them in the cart, knowing you’ve snagged an awesome deal. STOP----- You might be about to make a costly mistake. Take a second look at the other like items on the clearance rack. So glad you looked again, you now find the same pair for $5 cheaper than the ones you first picked up.
So is this a mistake? Did the store actually misprice the cheaper pair or did they forget to mark down all the rest? Before you head to the checkout to have them fix the error, let me fill you in on what happens in the retail world with clearance items. Most stores will get several shipments of the same item, only at different times. When items are received at different times, even though they may start out at the same regular price, will be put on clearance at different prices based upon when they are received. In other words, the item received last will be at a higher clearance price than the one received first. However, most of the time both of the items will go on clearance together. The fact that they are exactly the same color, style and overall item play no factor in determining the price.
Is this only in the clothing retail world you may be wondering? Absolutely not! Not too long ago I came across clip-on desk lamps on clearance that varied by $5. You guessed it, I bought the cheaper one. This can be a great blessing to the observant deal seeker. The only time this might not be to your advantage is when the size or color you want is not the cheaper of the two clearance prices.
“…seek and you shall find…”
Matthew 7:7
Once again I cannot stress enough that there are resources available everywhere to us. It is only a matter of seeking them out as a wise shopper.
“She considers a field and buys it….”
Proverbs 31:16
My word to you this week is : consider the clearance deal by price comparison before you buy it. Be an observant investigative shopper and uncover the best deal for your money.

The Register Rules
Have you found yourself frustrated with the process of
checkout when you’re pretty sure you have correctly worked the deal, but the
register (or cashier) disagrees? Yes, this can be a frustrating situation, especially
when you have worked the same deal in the past with no problems. So what’s a
couponer to do? Is it worth the effort to plan for the ultimate shopping trip
only to leave with half the deals?
I am going to give you a few tips that will hopefully ease
your stress and encourage you to continue to work the deals.
First, we are going to take a look at the grocery/retail
stores. All stores have a corporate coupon policy they use as a guideline. In
most cases the CSM (Customer Service Manager) will know more about the coupon
policy than the head store manager. If you have a question you will be time
ahead to ask them first. Many of these stores have the coupon policy posted at
each checkout lane. Brush up on these next time you are in the store. Most of
the time the cashier has not been trained in the coupon policy and often will
carefully scrutinize the coupon before taking it. Why do they do this? Well,
the answer is simple-with the increase in coupon fraud and extreme couponers
(especially since the arrival of a show we won’t mention the name of) stores
are on the lookout for those who try and take advantage of the system.
Unfortunately, the cashiers are highly reprimanded for coupons they accept that
do not fall in line with the stores specific policy. In some rare cases the
amount of the coupons accepted that were not within the store guidelines are
deducted from the cashiers pay at the end of the day. Would this cause you to
take a second glance before accepting the coupon? It would me. Let’s remember,
no matter what occasional challenge we may encounter it is better to leave
without a deal than deal out the anger on your way out. Keep in mind these are
rare occurrences.
“For you have need of steadfast patience and
endurance, so that you may perform and fully accomplish the will of God, and
thus receive and carry away [and enjoy to the full] what is promised.”
Hebrews 10: 36
Next, let’s take a look to dealing
with the drug stores and the often complicated process of “getting the deal
done.” Here are some tips to help ease the anxiety when dealing with Walgreen’s:
1. Take your time laying out individual
transactions placing item, coupon, and payment in individual stacks.
2. Grab a few extra fillers (carmels) to hang
onto in case of the unexpected beep. Remember your coupons cannot exceed your
items. If you successfully lower your purchase drastically using coupons,
chances are your total may not be high enough to cover the tax on what the
total purchase should have cost. Using Register Rewards on a purchase will not
reduce the tax. Tax will usually be expected on what the purchase should have
cost you. When this happens a filler or two will be needed to stop the beep.
3. The Register did not print out the reward and
it’s a done deal. Why does this happen?
Occasionally,
this can be a fluke event in the system, however, one reason this may happen is
due to the fact that you might be trying to use a Register Reward to pay for an
item that is manufactured by the same company that generated the Register
Reward you are paying with. In this case another will not print out. The same
situation will occur on a like item. In other words do not use a Register
Reward to pay for an item like the one you received the reward for purchasing
OR on an item that is from the same manufacturer that is supposed to generate
more Register Rewards. Proctor & Gamble products are some you will want to
watch closely for this.
In summary, remember couponing is a
system of rules and regulations that have the potential to empower the couponer
with phenomenal savings, even if an occasional challenge is encountered. Be a
committed couponer who complies with courtesy and reap a bountiful harvest of
savings.

Putting on the Full
Armor For Victory
Are you tired of the enemy getting the upper hand? Things are
going along good and all of the sudden he sends a spirit or problem that
disrupts your peace and chaos breaks out in your home and it seems your family
is being swept away by a raging storm. If you can identify with this, then this
message will definitely encourage you.
In this message we are going to take a look at what it
actually means to be led by love, how to have the compassion of Christ and how
to put on the full armor of God piece by piece so we can claim the victory and
defeat the enemy in his tactics against our lives. We are going to learn how to
claim the abundant life Christ planned for us to have all along. We will also
identify how the enemy will attack the areas of God’s call on our lives and
that of our children.
Let’s look at our children first in this article. It is no
question that a parent will go to great lengths to protect the future of their
children. We are without a doubt led by a tremendous, never-ending love that
desires the best possible future imaginable for our children. It is very
reassuring to know God has this same love for us and He has gone to great
lengths to assure us a wonderful future as well. In 1 John 4:9 it states:
“In this was manifested
the love of God toward us, because God sent His only begotten Son into the
world, that we might live through Him.”
It was indeed love that led God’s plan of action to defeat
the enemy’s tactics of trying to separate God from His children. God prepared a
plan, put it in action and claimed the victory through His Son Jesus. Today the
enemy is still trying to separate parents from their children and all mankind
from God our Father. John 10:10 tells us:
“The thief comes to
steal, kill and destroy, but I came that you might have life and have it more
abundantly.”
We must also let love move us into action, arm ourselves for
the battle and claim the victory. Praise God we do not have to figure out how
to defeat the enemy; God has given us very clear instructions in the book of
Ephesians. If you take a close look at this book you will notice it begins
talking about love in verse 4-6 of chapter 1-“For He chose us in Him before the creation of the world to be Holy and
blameless in His sight, In ‘love’ He predestined us to be adopted as His sons
through Jesus Christ, in accordance with His pleasure and will-to praise His
glorious grace, which He has freely given us in the one He loves.” Ephesians
ends in chapter 6:23-24 stating-“Peace to
the brothers, and love with faith from God the Father and the Lord Jesus
Christ. Grace to all who love our Lord Jesus Christ with an undying love.”
All the in between chapters in Ephesians center around God’s original intention
for the family of Christ and the power we have through the Holy Spirit to
defeat the enemy. This power becomes alive in chapter 6:10-20 when it states:
“Be strong in the Lord
[empowered through your union to Him]; draw your strength from Him [that
strength which His boundless might provides.]”
We can gather from this verse that we are definitely going to
encounter some challenges in this lifetime; however through our union with
Christ His strength knows no bounds. Next we see our clear instructions on how
to victoriously defeat the enemy.
“Put on God’s WHOLE
armor [the armor of a heavy-armed soldier which God supplies], that you may be
able to successfully stand up against [ALL} the strategies and deceits of the
devil.”
Are you grasping what this is actually saying to us? When we
put on ALL the armor God has already supplied, we are guaranteed success
against the devil! If we have access to it, why then do we often walk in a
defeated state? I want to relate to you from a personal experience in my life
how this armor became the weapons of victory over a situation in my own life.
My daughter had been experiencing
urinary tract infections for a period of six months and we found ourselves at
the doctor once again looking for answers through more tests. The report was
not good and the doctor’s treatments were to no avail. The doctor said we
needed to see a specialist as soon as possible. That night I came home
frustrated, confused and with an appointment for the next day to find out what
needed to be done. Before I closed my eyes that night I cried out to God in
frustration-“Lord, I just don’t understand, please tell me what we’re supposed
to do.” At 3:00 AM I awoke and heard God clearly tell me- “You have asked for
my help, now here is my answer, get up and put on the full armor and claim the
victory.” I was prompted to take a deeper look as to what the full armor of God
meant.
First, understand the victory is sealed!
God has equipped us to successfully defeat the enemy when we put on the whole
armor. Look at what Romans 13:12 tells us:
“The night is almost
gone, and the day is near. Therefore let us lay aside the deeds of darkness
(those things which are from the enemy of our souls) and put on the armor of
light,; in Him there is no darkness at all.”
God is the armor of light which dispels all darkness, thus
defeating the enemy.
Second, put on the belt of truth. Discover
the hidden agenda of the enemy and let him know the truth of the matter. What
is the enemy attacking and by what is he using to bring this attempted
destruction? The enemy will generally attack an area that will hinder your
ability to fulfill God’s plan for your life. It is not Satan’s desire that you
accomplish the task God has for you for this would bring glory to God. It is
not Satan’s desire to temporarily hinder God’s will for you or your children;
it is his desire to destroy it.
Do you know the truth of God concerning your life?
“They shall not labor
in vain, nor bring forth children for trouble.”
Isaiah 65:23
“No weapon formed
against you shall prosper…”
Isaiah 54:17
This is what we call the “BELT OF TRUTH.” We must know what
God’s promises are for us and speak them forth in truth casting down all vain
imaginations and feelings of hopelessness. It is mandatory to take your
negative thoughts captive to receive the victory.
“We are destroying
every lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of God, and we are taking
every thought captive to the obedience of Christ.”
2 Corinthians 10:5
Third, put on the Breastplate of
Righteousness. God cares about our souls and desires our bodies and futures to
be as healthy and prosperous as our soul. Let our faith not falter, for we are
justified by faith.
“Beloved I wish above
all things that you be in health and prosper just as your soul prospers.”
1 John 3:2
Fourth, we are to shod our feet in
preparation [to face the enemy with firm-footed stability, promptness, and
readiness. (verse 15) This is the Gospel of Peace. Don’t back down when the
battle gets intense, be prompt to deal with your situation and reestablish
peace to it (a peace that passeth all understanding). The more we allow
something to be remain undealt with, the more foothold the enemy receives in
our situation.
Fifth, we must have the shield of faith
firmly in place. We must train our tongue to speak out our faith even when we
can’t see our victory. We remember Paul in prison and how he began praising
God. What happened next? His chains fell off. We must praise our way to
deliverance. We must take our petition to God and allow peace to reassure us
that the fulfillment of our need is on its way. Think for a moment about a
child who is hungry; they come to you and ask “What are we having for lunch?”
Do they run to you in desperation saying, “I’m starved, what I am going to
eat?” Usually, they make known their need and trust the need will be met, thus
establishing peace in a needy situation. More victories would probably be seen
in our lives if we learned to have that same child-like faith.
“Above all, taking the
shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench ALL the fiery darts of
the wicked.”
Ephesians 6:16
Sixth, is the Helmet of Salvation. Know who you are in Christ. Do not let the
enemy tell you your problem is a result of your past or because of a recent
failure. Keep your helmet in place and resist fear. We will never completely
know why some things happen the way they do, but we do know that with the
weapons of warfare we can victoriously overcome them.
“And the Lord, He it is
that doth go before thee; He will be with thee, He will not fail thee, neither
forsake thee: Fear not neither be dismayed.”
Deut. 31:8
Seventh, take the Sword of the Spirit. This
is taking God’s word as it is written to heart and using it to verbally defeat
the enemy. In Ephesians 6:17 the word “spirit” refers to verbal action. We need
to verbalize God’s promises, His holy scriptures to defeat the plans of the
enemy. We must remember Jesus in the wilderness and His proclamation to
Satan-“It is written.”
Finally, we are told in Ephesians 6:18, “Pray at all times in
the spirit.” Our strength to overcome is sealed by prayer.
Going back to my daughter and the challenge we were facing,
God showed me as I put on the full armor the enemy would be defeated. The next
day at the specialist the doctor saw something in the x-rays and wanted to run
another ultrasound to be sure. As I stood unmoved by these words reassuring my
daughter that God was faithful, the technician called the doctor in and nothing
could be found. In his words, “This is a perfectly healthy kidney.” All tests
were rerun and nothing could be found that was there before. Praise God for the
“Full Armor” that secures the battle and delivers the victory!

Understanding The
Fine Print
Have you noticed all the changes appearing in the fine print
on coupons? Chances are you have seen a lot more wording on the bottom of your
coupons as well as in-store restrictions regarding the amount of items allowed
per customer. Have you ever asked yourself this question, “If the manufacturer
puts the coupon out there, why do they care how many of the item you purchase?”
In this article I am going to clarify why they in fact do care and how this
affects you with the changes in the fine print.
First of all, we need to understand that manufacturers and
retailers are in business to make money not develop a home business for the
consumer. Their goal is not for people to make money off their stockpile, nor
to reach only the extreme couponers with their products. Manufacturers set in place, with advice from
their marketing analyst, a marketing budget which allow them to promote their
product at a balanced pace. In other words, they know there is a projected
amount of coupons redeemed in regards to the coupons they put in circulation. They
do not expect the payout to exceed a certain percentage. This percentage is
usually below 6%. In 2010 this percentage was approximately 3%. Something else
we need to remember is manufacturers want to develop a pattern of demand on
their product based upon a large group of people and not on a limited group.
The limited group we are talking about here is the “Extreme Couponer.” This
group will monopolize the supply and give the manufacturer an unrealistic
report of their product demand.
Let’s take a look at some of the wording we are seeing on
coupons:
1.
“No
cash back if coupon exceeds retail value”
(At some stores they will allow you to still use the coupon,
although the item will not receive an overage, it will be free. At others they
will not take the coupon if the value of it exceeds the item.)
2.
“Good
only on product indicated”
(This will generally refer to the exact item pictured unless
the wording states any variety)
3.
“Not
to be used in conjunction with another promotional offer or coupon”
(In simple terms—no stacking with a store coupon. This can
also mean not to be used in conjunction with another promotion by the
manufacturer (like a mail in rebate) or even a store promotion if the store
decides this to be the case)
4.
“One
coupon per person per package of product indicated”
(This means the customer will be entitled to use only 1 of
this type coupon for the product indicate. Multiple coupons would not be
allowed)
5.
“No
more than 2 coupons for same product in same transaction”
(Here we can see the manufacturer limiting us to 2 of the
same type coupons for the same product. Depending on the store policy, this
coupon would allow you to use 2 more in a separate transaction.)
6.
“Void
if purchased, traded or sold”
(Most don’t like this fine print, however it does appear on
most coupons. Coupons are not to be bought, sold, or traded. Why? Remember
above, this often causes the manufacturers marketing budget to be exceeded. Now
I would like to mention here these guidelines may seem quite restrictive and
even opposite to the couponing patterns we have followed in the past. But, we
must remember the manufacturer makes the rules and if we are going to benefit
as well, we must follow them.)
7.
“Limit
1 deal per coupon per customer”
(Pretty straight forward here—You will only be allowed to use
1 of these coupons to receive the discount)
8.
“Limit
1 coupon per customer for this offer”
(Like above, this will limit the customer to only 1 coupon
for this product)
Last year the CIC (Coupon Information Corporation) began
sending letters to eBay sellers request the stop of selling coupons. Many did
cooperate with this and cease selling coupons. According to the CIC eBay as
well as organizations that offer clipping services breeches the coupon
terminology stating “Void if sold or purchased.” As I stated above, this may be
a pattern of use we have not given much thought to and have even fallen victim
ourselves, however it is important as we began to understand what the manufacturer
and retailer expect of us to abide by their regulations. Shortly after the
“Extreme Couponing” show hit the air many manufacturers began applying wording
to their coupons and placing limits on the couponer. This needs to be a wake-
up call to the couponer. The manufacturer will adjust the guidelines if the
coupons are being misused. As a matter of fact one retailer was denied a large
(in the tens of thousands of dollars) reimbursement by the manufacturer due to
what the manufacturer believed to be an excessive use of coupons by the
consumer. Manufacturers are looking into a reasonable amount of coupons to be
used for like items when it comes to building a stockpile. Remember they want
us to use their products consistently, so we need to only buy what we will use
in the 6-8 week cycle not what will last us a year. Do all of these changes
mean we will not be able to stockpile or save drastically enough to lower our
household expenditures? Well, I guess this depends on us. If we start using
coupons wisely and teach others to do so as well, we can expect manufacturers
to continue offering great discounts. If we don’t we can expect to see changes affecting
us all in major way. The saying is true, “One bad apple can ruin a bushel.” The
CIC will be holding their annual conference in the early spring. Let’s all commit today to deal wisely and
show the CIC we desire to abide by their regulations. After all, what if it was
our business, wouldn’t we expect the same?
“Therefore keep the words
of this Covenant and do them,
that you may deal wisely and prosper in all
you do.”

Progressive Stages To
Victory On Life’s Journey
In my previous article, “Is There Joy In Your Journey?”, we
talked about the difference between joy and pleasure and how God would direct
our steps as we entrusted them to Him. In this article I want to focus in on
the stages we often encounter on our journey. To get a better understanding of
this we will look at the Israelites again and the journey they set out on.
Let’s understand that when God takes us to the Promised land,
there will always be giants along the way to conquer. Sometimes those giants
will be in the form of challenging co-workers, a hard to deal with boss, an
incorrect mindset, etc.. Many times the
giants we face are our own mentalities that hinder our progress as was the case
of the Israelites. In Exodus 17:1 it states:
“All the congregation
of the Israelites moved on from the Wilderness of Sin by stages according to
the commandment of the Lord…..”
Many times are wilderness is the time God is moving us out of
mentalities that will hinder our promises and abundance. This is a time of
preparation when God gets us ready to receive what He has for us. Wrong
mentalities will keep us from being able to enjoy and manage the blessings God
has in store for us. In reference to the challenging co-workers or hard to deal
with boss, sometimes they are part of
the growing process, God’s way of seeing how we deal with less than pleasant
situations. In my life personally a great wilderness time that impacted my life
and prepared me for my future calling was when we lost our home and were homeless
for 6 weeks. Prior to this situation, we went through times of lack of food,
water, power and pretty much everything that was common to most. When in the
midst of this time it was not pleasant and I did not always understand why
things were as they were, especially when I knew God had said He was leading
us. Now I understand and see the reason for the trials, for without them I
would not have the compassion of the needy and be able to relate to their
situations. Now does it mean all people will have to go through a circumstance
like I did? Not necessarily, but for my family, God knew what it would take for
us to get in a position for use for His glory. I hate to admit, but sometimes
God has to push me out of the boat. Anybody out there relate? So the stages
that took place in my life were necessary to set my family in a position to do
what we are doing now. Are we still going through stages? You bet! There is
always more to learn and I truly thank God He is a patient teacher who does
have the promised land in sight for us.
So how can we get to the promise land quicker? In Numbers
9:23 we read,
“At the command of the
Lord they remained encamped, and at His command they journeyed.”
Move at God’s pace. Trust that He knows what you need to
learn and how long you will need to stay there to learn it. When He says get
going, get going! The more we learn to trust Him and accept His plan, purpose
and pace the faster we will move toward His goal for us. It is not God’s desire
to delay our joy, but rather to develop our character so we can experience
complete and satisfying joy. I am encouraged by the scripture James 1:2-4,
“My brethren, count it
ALL joy when ye fall into divers temptations; knowing this, that the trying of
your faith worketh patience. But, let patience have her perfect work, that ye
may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.”
The difficult task still remains in keeping this joy when the
journey seems to prolong. When we are committed to stay in fellowship with God
even though we don’t have all the answers, we are promised that our steps are ordered
by the Lord. (Psalm 37:23) This confidence assures us that we are moving in the
right direction as long as we stay in fellowship with God. Here is another
great verse from Psalm 97:11-12,
“Light is sown for the
righteous and strewn along their pathway, and JOY for the upright in heart (the
irrepressible joy which comes from conscientiousness of His favor and
protection).”
Does being righteous mean we never wonder why, we never get
frustrated, we never feel like quitting, we never make any mistakes? I believe
I can honestly say we all hit these times in our lives, but it is the heart God
is looking at. Remember David, who made many mistakes, yet God says he was a
man after God’s own heart. What did this mean? David realized his human nature
to fail, but desired to remain in fellowship with God and knew this was the
greatest thing he could ever experience. He prayed to God and asked God not to
take His spirit from him. David knew God was all that mattered even when his
flesh failed him. We must not allow the devil to discourage us into thinking we
have failed to many times to receive God’s forgiveness. We must never lose the
heart to desire a close fellowship with God and a desire to please Him.
My challenge to you is to trust God with your life. After
all, He created it for Him and you are a vessel He chooses to work through to
bring glory to His name. If He believes in you, you must never quit believing
in Him to accomplish all He wills for your life. God is the finisher of our
faith and will bring to completion the good work He has started in you. (Philippians
1:6)
Blessings & joy to you as God works out His plan in your
life,

STRATEGIC
STOCKPILING
Have you ever
noticed that many of the same items go on sale at the same time each week in
the store ads? However, careful observation will often show you a small
variance in price at different stores even though the item is drastically
reduced. The reason we generally see a particular item going on sale is due to
a promotion by the manufacturer to move a specific product. This can occur due
to items being close to “out of date status”, overstocks, or decrease in
customer purchase activity. The
manufacturer usually offers a bulk buy deal for retailers in exchange for
promotional display on end caps or in a center aisle location. It is a proven
fact that these type of promotions can drastically increase sales. A
promotional allowance is usually given the retailer for creating and
maintaining the display and/or advertising the sale. This brings to question,
why do store shelves run out of these items they know are going to be going on
sale? Usually stores miss this ordering preparedness due to the uncertainty of
the coupons circulating.
Now that we
understand why we see some of the same items on sale at different stores, this
is where your strategy begins. Especially in regard to drug stores we see
differences range using their reward programs. What do I mean exactly by this?
Let’s look at an example:
Walgreens---Venus
Razor Sale $5.99 RR after
purchase $2 Coupon Amount $2
OOP: $3.99 After RR:
$1.99
CVS—Venus Razor
Sale $3.99 Coupon
Amount $2
OOP: $1.99
Notice they
both have a final value of $1.99, however at this point you want to determine
if there is something you need to add to your stockpile in which to use the RR
of $2 from Walgreen’s. If not, CVS will be your better deal. This is a pretty
common occurrence at the drug stores, so it pays to shop wisely here.
How do you
determine the amount of items to keep in your stockpile without over buying?
Set yourself limits of items to keep on hand. For example, if your limit is ten
bottles of body wash and your stock is down to eight, you will only want to buy
two (even if you have more coupons).
Now for
determining how much to spend on items that are not needs but rather stockpile
additives. Set yourself a specific weekly amount to spend on these additives.
Usually $10-$20 is quite adequate due to the fact you are buying with coupons
on sale items. Choosing the items to purchase is relatively easy. Look at the
weekly ads to determine the highly discounted items that you have a coupon for.
Next, determine your stockpile needs of these items and buy enough to build
your stockpile quantity back up. You might want to choose a two or three items
to focus on. A designated stockpile fund is mandatory to keep yourself from
running out. Now, you may be thinking, “I will never run out of toothpaste!”.
Trust me if you don’t do this you will regret it.
These same
principles will apply at the grocery store as well. Watch for duplicate deals
at different stores. This will help you determine which store will offer you
the majority of the bargains and help you spend wisely.
"In the house of the wise are stores of choice food and
oil, but a foolish man devours all he has."
Proverbs 21:20
Eleanor Roosevelt once
said, “It takes as much energy to wish as it does to plan.” Don’t look at your
stockpile and wish it’s sufficiency, this will only stress you out and lead to
disappointment when you run out. Plan your adequate supply and shop a little at
a time.
I wish you a
prosperous week as you take a closer look at your stockpile and plan your next
couponing adventure.

Is There Joy In Your
Journey
Have you ever heard someone say, “I don’t enjoy walking this
Christian path, it’s too difficult!” Maybe you yourself have even had this
thought cross your mind at some time even though you did not verbalize it. As I
began to think about all the challenges we face in this lifetime, I wondered, “Are
we supposed to have joy when we are in the midst of a difficult circumstance or
situation?” God began to speak to me concerning the meaning behind the
statement that is often thought or verbalized. What is really being said is, “This
journey I am on does not bring pleasure to my flesh.” There is a big difference
in ‘pleasure’ and ‘joy’. Joy is the fruit of a right relationship with God and
pleasure is the philosophy of self-centered pleasure seeking. Joy comes from
knowing and serving God, whereas pleasure comes from knowing and serving the
world. We see in Hebrews 11:24-25:
“Moses when he had
grown to maturity and become great, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s
daughter, because he preferred to share the oppression and bear the shame of
the people of God rather than to have the fleeting enjoyment of a sinful life.”
Moses understood that serving God often means suffering hardships,
however we know this very faith is what made him ready for God’s use and miracle
working power. Notice it states “fleeting enjoyment.” The pleasures of the
world can in no way compare to the peace of God when we give Him control of our
lives. When we seek the pleasures of the world our lives are filled with guilt,
dissatisfaction and chaos. When we seek the pleasures of God we have a peace
that passes all our understanding. In other words, when we still don’t know how
our situation can change we have an inner confidence that it will. We can even
go to another Biblical figure, Solomon, in Ecclesiastes 2:1-10 and see that his
life of pleasure seeking left him empty and confused. Luke 8:14 tells us:
“They are the type of
people who hear the word, but go on to busy themselves with the anxieties,
cares, and riches and pleasures of life.”
Do we read about God’s promised peace but allow it to be
choked out by our cares and desires for the pleasures and comforts of this
world? Timothy pins it down in II Timothy 3:4:
”---lovers of pleasure
more than lovers of God.”
So my question to you is, “If you are not experiencing joy in
your journey, could it be that you have mistaken joy for pleasure?” To lack joy is to lack a trust in a miracle working God!
Let’s take a look at a well-known journey in Exodus 16:1-3.
The Israelites were complaining to Moses about their situation saying,
“Would that we had died
by the hand of the Lord in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the fleshpots and
ate bread to the full; for you have brought us out into this wilderness to kill
this whole assembly with hunger.”
I see here a group of
hungry, tired, traveling people who are ready to settle for the lesser hardship
of two circumstances. Neither circumstance was pleasing to their flesh, however
at this point they are ready to go back to the one that was predictable. They
knew what to expect in Egypt, even if it wasn’t pleasant. Following God meant
faith would be involved and the steps to victory unknown. Have you ever found
yourself remaining with the predictable instead of pushing through to the
promises God has given you? Does our decision often resemble an immediate
remedy when another choice might be in our best interest long term? Are we
willing to endure the harder choice that aligns us with God’s will for the joy
that will come in being obedient to Him and entering the promised land? We look
to Isaiah 49:13 to read,
“Sing for joy, O
heavens and be joyful, O earth, and break forth into singing, O mountains! For
the Lord has comforted His people and will have compassion upon His afflicted.”
Yes, we are to expect the comfort and compassion of our Lord
and be joyful for He hears and sees our challenges and will not leave us in
them. Are you experiencing challenges in your life that cause you
to question turning back to what seemed secure? Maybe it’s a stressful job, that
provided a stable income? Maybe you’ve been hurt by church family and
contemplate a life without the fellowship of believers? I encourage you to move
as the Lord leads, not in snap decisions based upon frustration. Seek God and
move when He moves you. When your heart is more concerned for God’s will than
that of your own you will hear clear direction from Him on the path to take and
decisions to make. Yes, we must die to ourselves daily to live for Him daily.
The Israelites had to learn to move with the cloud of God. Exodus 13:21 states,
“By day the Lord went ahead of them in a pillar of cloud to guide them on their way and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, so that they could travel by day or night.”
Notice here how God is not hindered
by day or night. He is not hindered by your circumstance, either. He will guide
you and give you light so that you may travel where he wills no matter what the
obstacles. He will open your eyes and lead you on the paths if you choose to
follow Him all the way to victory and abundant living.
In next week’s article I want to take
a look at the stages in which God took the Israelites. This week keep on
trusting and speaking God’s faithfulness as you wait for Him to deliver you.
Blessings,
Ann

DEALING WITH DIFFICULT PEOPLE
If this title caught your attention chances are you are
thinking of someone who challenges your life. Let’s face it—none of us are
perfect, but we all know someone that takes all our patience and then some. So
many times we don’t even know why this person wants to challenge our life. I
want to take a look with you into the life of Joseph and see how he dealt with
a challenging situation and eventually received a huge promotion. Joseph’s life
was a portrait of challenge to victory repetitively, that eventually led to a
prominent position. Whether in the workforce, home, church or anywhere else; if
you have a hard to deal with person in your life, you need to read this
article. Learn from Joseph and get ready
to be promoted!
Here’s a summary of events leading to Joseph’s challenge
with one particular person-- He had been
sold to the Ishmaelites by his brothers and later ended up in Egypt where
Potiphar, an Egyptian official of Pharaoh’s, bought him. The Lord had favor on
Joseph and he prospered. Potiphar, seeing this put Joseph in charge of his
whole household and everything he owned and it prospered greatly. Now
Potiphar’s wife began to take notice of Joseph and tried to seduce him into
following her wishes. It tells us she pestered him day after day and Joseph
continually ignored her. So far so good; Joseph has managed to retain his
character, but let’s see what happens next. (Read Genesis 37-45 for further
detail)
Genesis 39:11-14 –“Then it happened about this time that
Joseph went into the house to attend to his duties, and none of the men of the
house were indoors. She caught him by his garment, saying lie with me. But he
left his garment in her hand and fled out of the house. When she saw that he
had left his garment in her hand and fled, she called the men of her household
and said to them, your master (Potiphar) has brought in a Hebrew to us to mock
and insult us. He came in where I was to lie with me, and I screamed at the top
of my voice.”
Potiphar’s wife could not handle her lack of control over
Joseph and sought revenge through attacking his character through lies.
Have you met a Potiphar's wife?
Even though we may not have the exact challenge Joseph had,
we can all relate to this story. We all have our Potiphar's wives, those who
give us great and continual challenge. They are often in the workforce. We can
also find them in churches, families, and friend groups. Associations with them
can often resemble that of a prison sentence and feel like incarceration. They
can inflict fear when they are silent, causing us to wonder what they will do
next, and anger when they are deceitful. They keep everyone on pins and needles
and everything in chaos. They will try to get us to do things that would damage
our character and creditability.
Who is the Potiphars wife?
We see a person who's desire for personal gain is rooted in their lack of
personal value and self acceptance , which causes them to seek destruction on
the lives of others to keep their position and remain in control. Potiphar had
brought a slave into the house and put him in charge of everything. We can
easily see jealousy taking root in her life; jealousy of the favor God had on
Joseph’s life and the praise he was receiving from her husband. No doubt a
deeper rejection even took hold when Joseph denied her. Do we hate her, no we
pity her? You may be thinking,
“Absolutely not! I am tired of this person and the continual day in day out
struggles they give me.” Truth is we should pity them! Why? Because they are the sick in need of a Saviour to give
t hem value. Do we bend our beliefs beneath their pressure to conform? No, we
stand firm when our morals are being attacked, because the truth and favor of
God remains with us. Our lives are no doubt affected by the Potiphar's wife,
but they are not controlled by them. For God is a righteous judge and His
blessing is on the steadfast.
Human nature wants to defend ourselves and prove our innocence, but we must
learn to let our innocence show forth in our continued commitment to truth and
righteous living.
Why must the Potiphar's wife continue
trying to chip away at our character intending to bring us down?
Jealousy maybe, insecurity possibly, but undoubtedly an unfulfillment in their
own lives.
How do you deal with a Potiphar's wife?
Refuse to accept any conformity to this person’s wishes that would jeopardize
your character.
Refuse to slander this person, doing so makes you like them.
Refuse to stay around this person (especially by yourself). A crowd of
witnesses bring fear to a Potiphar’s wife. Their lies will generally circulate
behind your back and not tell them to your face. Why? The works of the enemy
cannot stand in the presence of truth for fear of being exposed. Satan knows
the power of God to bring forth righteous judgement and will attempt to work
from a hidden state.
Pray for this person, that they may be saved.
How then do you remain encouraged when
you encounter the Potiphars wife?
Confident assurance--Know that the testing of your faith is more precious than
gold. Those in the fire will come forth as gold.
“That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold
that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and
honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ.”
1 Peter 1:7
Commitment--Know that God delivers the righteous from the prison they often
find themselves in when standing for right.
“God
is to us a God of deliverances and salvation; and to God the Lord belongs
escape from death [setting us free].”
Psalm 68:20
Continuance--Allow God to use you at the place you find yourself; to help
others find truth, even if it is from prison.
“It’s what I am sitting in jail for right now—but God’s Word isn’t in
jail. That’s why I stick it out here—so everyone God calls will get in on the
salvation of Christ in all its glory.”
2 Timothy 2:9
Be careful that you do not depend on others to go to bat for
you. Your defender is God! Remember, if God is for us who can be against us.
Many times, even those you have helped will forget you when their lives change
for the better and often they will fear those who have the power over them if
they speak up. It was 2 years before the butler remembered the impact
Joseph had on his life when he interpreted his dream. We may stand alone, but
there are 10,000 unseen fighting for us. Our future is in God’s hands, not the
hands of others. Trust must remain with the only one we can be totally
dependent on, God!
What can you see from your prison cell?
Opportunity to advance--God grants favor in the midst of the confinement
“The head jailer gave Joseph free rein, never even checked on him,
because God was with him; whatever he did God made sure it worked out for the
best.”
Genesis 39:23
Hope for tomorrow--God is at work even when we can't see Him working
“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who
love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”
Romans 8:28
Opportunity to grow--times of inability to change circumstances are times to
become molded into a greater leader.
“Let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we will reap if
we do not grow weary.”
Galatians 6:9
Those who do not faint will reap in due season. God remains faithful to the
steadfast and will promote them at the proper time to bring forth His glory and
deliverance to those in need. Your situation is not all about you. It is
Satan's attack to keep you discouraged in hopes of implanting a failing faith
in God. When in actuality, God's plan and your victory lie in your
continued faith while in prison and a shared testimony of victory when God
brings you out. God wants to use you to help others.
Look at Jesus, the suffering, the witness, yet his time had not come to be
promoted. He had to endure the slander. When it did come time to be
promoted, He became ruler of all. He said not my will, but thine Lord and the
result- He saved all who would accept Him.
Remember Joseph said to His brothers it is not you? But God who has brought me
here to save your life.
So ask yourself, Are you where you are to make a difference in the lives of
those who have come against you? Remember Potiphar's wife was also saved from
the famine under Joseph’s position. All of Egypt it says.
It is often easy to help those who like us and want change, but the heart of
God is to help those who defy Him and these are the ones who will come against
us. "If they hate me they will also hate you,” Jesus said.
Will we ever change the Potiphar's wife?
We may never know, however we can be assured when we live right before them,
they have seen the Life of Christ in action and their lives will be affected in
some way. The truth will be revealed to them. It wasn't till Jesus was crucified
that the eyes of the accusers were opened.
This is not an easy word to swallow. We would much rather hear—Our “Potiphar's
wife” will realize the error of their ways, they will realize you are a
good person, and they will apologize and become your friend.
Unfortunately this is not the way it usually turns out. However, you must
remember your mission is to plant the seeds of truth and let God grow the
harvest of righteousness. We will stand amazed some day at the lives we thought
we hadn't reached to find we were many times their greatest influence to real
and honest Christianity.
A life lived truthfully by example is Christianity in action--the opposite of
religion!
Mere religion will be the downfall of many who know of Christ but do not walk
in His shoes. Only in walking with him can one experience complete satisfaction
in their lives whether in prison or in prominent positions.
I encourage you today, to accept your mission, be steadfast in your battle and
be assured of your promotion. I pray for you and covet your prayers as we pray
in agreement for the Potiphar's wives, that their minds be cleansed, their
words be honest, their hands be productive and their hearts be changed for the
glory of God!
Love your enemies, pray for those who persecute you.
“But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute
you,”
Matthew 5:44

Repetitive Dollar
Deals With Coupons
One of the most common questions I hear is, “What coupons
should I clip?” Most people find clipping coupons to be the most time consuming
part of couponing. In fact, this can be a monstrous task if you don’t know what
items will produce the best bargains. Many items produce repetitive deep
discounts dropping to a dollar or less. So, what are these items? Let’s find
out!
The most common items
we see reoccurring at the grocery stores for $1 or less are:
(Note: Prices listed are after coupons)
Dole Pineapple $.25
Cereal $1
Prego Spaghetti Sauce $.50
Salad Dressings (Wishbone, Hidden Valley ) $.50
Mustard (French’s) $.25
Progresso Soups $.40
Uncle Ben’s Rice $.35
Betty Crocker Potatoes $.35
Knorr Pasta $.25
Duncan Hines Cake Mix $.0
Laundry Detergent (All, Wisk, XTRA) $1.50
Kraft Cheese $1
Popcorn (Orville Redenbacher, Pop Secret,) $.80
Hunts Ketchup $.25
Fiber One Yogurt $.25
Cooking Spray (Pam, Crisco) $1
Swanson Broth $.35
Campbell’s Cream Soups $.37
Lipton Tea Bags $.80
Totino’s Pizza Roll $.80
Pillsbury Toaster Strudels $.80
Windex $.25
Clorox Cleaners $.35
Goodlife Recipe Cat Food $.25
Old Spice Body Wash $.50
Cover Girl Makeup $.30
Soft Soap $.30
Mt. Olive Pickles $.09
These are just some of the great items seen at the stores.
Watch for many more. However, with this list a good start up stockpile can be
accomplished. Rock bottom prices may vary from time to time, but take off with
this list to get going.
The most common items
we see reoccurring at Drug Stores for $1 or less are:
Razors (all kinds) $1 or less
Toothpaste (Colgate, Crest) $0
Toilet Tissue (Scott, Charmin) $0
Paper Towels (Scott) $0
Toothbrushes $.25
Deodorant $.30
Body Washes (Nivea, Soft Soap, Irish Spring) $.50
Dawn Dish Soap $.25
Take special notice of all the weekly items in the Drug Store
ads offering rewards back in the full amount of purchase price. These when
purchased using a coupon will make for many free items of your choice in within
the store.
Keep in mind we don’t all need the same items, so a bargain
for one is a waste for another no matter what the cost. Seek out the items you
need and act by clipping those coupons.
“Seek and ye shall find..”
Matthew
7:7
As the New
Year is upon us we are seeing an abundance of great coupons. Clip wisely and
experience the abundance of your efforts.
“…for they will eat the
fruit of their actions”
Isaiah 3:10

In Full Swing of Savings
Wow! Can you believe it? Christmas is over and we have reached another New Year. Are you ready to make the most of 2012 and discover all God has for you? I know I am!
It is always exciting decorating the tree, baking the goodies, opening the presents, but when all the excitement has subsided, it is once again time to pack it all away for another year. At my house the excitement seems to carry on from one special event to another, another and yet another. What do I mean? Three of my six children have January birthdays! I used to think this was a financial catastrophe in the making, but then I discovered the after Christmas sales. Wish they all could be January babies, just kidding! However, I realized one year that if I kept their Christmas lists and targeted the items they had asked for which we had not purchased for Christmas, these would carry over onto the birthday list at great savings. This article is dedicated to all the January gift givers. Don’t be discouraged if this doesn’t affect you directly. You have a great opportunity to take advantage of these sales to stash away for future birthdays and even next year’s Christmas.
Here is a list of the latest after Christmas sales events going on in the stores:
(some restrictions apply and discounts may vary depending on item)
Kohl’s—60-70% off
Aeropostale—up to 70% off
Hollister—50% off excludes fragrances and gift cards
American Eagle—Additional 30% off clearance
JC Penney’s—75% off
WalMart—50% off
Express—Up to 70% off with Additional 20% off
Old Navy—75% off clearance
Cracker Barrel—50% off
Target—30-50% off
Bath & Body—50% off
Cold Water Creek—Up to 70% off plus Additional 40% off some new styles
CVS—50% off
Walgreen’s—50% off
Rite Aid—50% off
Now is the perfect time to buy the decorations for next year’s tree trimming, prepare those unique gift baskets to have on hand for the unexpected gift giver, and even update the winter wardrobe. One other place you may be forgetting to look for after Christmas bargains is the grocery store. The holiday cookies, cakes, candy, and any baking items related to Christmas are now on clearance. Many of these have current coupons available and many are on the packages. For example, the Pillsbury Christmas cookies are now 2/$3.00 at WalMart and there are coupons still valid for $1/2. This makes your cookies $1 a package. I don’t know about you but my kids will eat cookies any time of the year.
So why buy now? What you see in the stores will be back next year, but at full retail. Preparation will save you hundreds of dollars and allow you to save for other needs that might arise throughout the year. Obviously, we hope the washing machine will not go out, but things do come at us unexpectedly sometimes. Seize the opportunity and be prepared. Preparation does not indicate a lack of faith, but that of a wise investor.
“A sensible man watches for problems ahead and PREPARES to meet them. The simpleton never looks and suffers the consequences.”
Proverbs 27:12
Blessings to you as you kick off 2012 with some strategic shopping savings!
Happy New Year,

Stir Up The Gift
Within You
Do you
believe God has put within you a special gift that only you can use that will
benefit your life and the lives of others? This gift belongs only to you and no
one else can have access to it. It is your unique gift that assures you
success, influence, and confidence in who YOU are in Christ. Let’s take a look
at a scripture telling you about this gift.
“There are distinctive
varieties and distributions of gifts, (extraordinary powers distinguishing
certain Christians…..) and they vary, but the Holy Spirit remains the same.”
1 Corinthians 12:4
[AMP]
You can
clearly see that the Holy Spirit instills different types of gifts in our
lives, but all exercising extraordinary powers when we use them. How can you be
sure these are gifts that you uniquely possess? Take a look at the following
scripture and see for yourself:
“Having gifts
(faculties, talents and qualities) that differ according to the grace given us,
let us use them…”
Romans 12:6
The gifts
God puts in us are in the forms of our faculties, talents, and qualities. So
why do so many people fall into a depressed and defeated mindset when they have
been equipped with unique gifts that possess life changing power?
There are two
main reasons we see this:
1. 1.Many are trying to work off of someone
else’s gifts, generally because they have not discovered their own.
I can honestly say, all
of us at one time or another have probably questioned the purpose God has for
our lives. I don’t know about you but I am ready to develop the power God has
put in my life personally and stop trying to tap someone else’s power to
success and satisfaction.
2. 2. Another reason we often see gifts
that lack power is because a key ingredient is missing. In 1 Cor. 13 we find that if we possess all
gifts, yet we lack LOVE (the love of God in us), our gifts become useless.
Before we can
effectively use the gifts God has given us we have to become a vessel through
which love for others flows. If we want the benefit of the gift, but not the
ministry of love we will never have success. God’s purpose in the gifts He
gives us is to be a vessel through which His love can flow to others. It is time we accept the gifts we have been given and use
them to show the love of Christ to others.
Acknowledging
the fact that we have been given a gift to use for God’s glory is only the
first step. It is necessary that we use it. Let’s look at a scenario for a
moment:
“I have been given a
beautiful pair of ice skates from a special friend. I feel honored to receive
such a special gift, however I put them aside planning to use them later."
Does my gift
ever bring forth pleasure other than the moment it was received? Unfortunately not!
This is what happens to us when the Holy Spirit first comes into our lives, we
experience gratitude and then we tend to forget to use the gifts He gave us, therefore, possessing no
power to transform our lives. An idle gift will never produce a blessing any
more than a closed Bible will produce a satisfied life.
“That is why I remind
you to STIR UP the gift of God that is in you…..”
2 Timothy 1:6
Notice in 2 Timothy 1:6 we are told to “stir
up” the gift God has put within us. What does it mean to “stir up”? I like the
way one definition puts it- to summon into action or bring into existence.
Obviously, we don’t automatically come with a switch that turns on our gifts.
It is necessary for us to bring them into action. Get a hold of this: “Action
is the operating part that transmits power to a mechanism.” We are told to summon
our gifts forth so they can transmit power. Wow! We all have a God-placed gift
within us that God wants us to use to transmit power to our lives and those we are
called to touch. Your gift will transform and empower your life and the lives
of others when you stir it up and put it to work.
How can we
know that our gifts will bring about success?
“A man’s gift makes
room for him and brings him before great men.”
Proverbs 18:16
We can
clearly see the above scripture demonstrate in the life of Abigail in 1 Samuel
25. Here Abigail’s selfish husband refuses to give to David and his men.
Abigail realizing that her wicked husband has brought about evil upon her
household gathers a gift and takes it to David asking that he disregard Nabal’s
foolishness. Abigail states, “And now
this gift, which your handmaid has brought my lord, let it be given to the
young men who follow my lord.” (v. 27) You see Abigail understood that a gift
possessed was to be given in love to the benefit of others. If this gift had
remained in the hands of Nabal, destruction would have come to the household.
Instead, we see that a gift used for the purpose of others brings success to
the household. How long will we keep our gifts under roof and hinder the
success of our households?
Let me
assure you when God gives us a gift He never takes it back. Chances are you
have dormant gifts in your life that God wants to awaken to change your
circumstances.
“For God’s gifts and
His call are irrevocable. [He never withdraws them when once they are given and
He does not change His mind about those to whom He gives His grace or to whom
He sends His call.]”
Romans 11:29
What gifts
do you possess that are not being used to transform your life and the lives of
others? Let me just throw out a few examples to help you start discovering how
the gifts of God can change lives, including your own:
1. The gift of encouragement—
a) Speak words of encouragement to others
b) Write your words of hope in a daily journal
c) Publish your journal
d) Sell your journal
e) Success “She sees that her GAIN
from work (with and for God) is good.” Prov. 31:18
2. The gift of sewing—
a) Bless family, friends and needy with
handmade gifts (money saving & business building)
b) Open an online or physical store to
offer your gifts
c) Success “She makes fine linen garments and LEADS others to buy them…” Prov
31:24 (She is a marketer)
3. The gift of organization—
a) Organize your household & give
your friends and family tips on organizing theirs
b) Open a business that advises/trains
others on successful organization skills to help their business/household run
smoothly
c) Write a book on Organization & Market it
d) Success “She rises while it is yet night and gets food for her household and ASSIGNS
her maids their TASKS.” Prov. 31:15
(No matter
what your gift, use it to be a ministry of God’s word to encourage the life of
the receiver spiritually. All businesses growing out of your gifts must be
built on the foundation of God’s word to be successful)
Notice the
first and key ingredient to each of these gifts—point a “give your gift to
others”. This is the love flowing out of your gift. Once you set your gift to
flow out in love for others God will begin to make your gift successful in your
own life. Remember we are to prefer others above ourselves.
It’s time to
start stirring in 2012 and watch God transform your life for His glory! I want
nothing less in 2012, how about you?
